PS just noticed that the Spey is missing from the list of rivers - a good job for Malcolm if it snows again. ;D The snow has thawed, we have a a major inundation which has put pay to any fishing. Try www.salmonatlas.com/forums/spey/6393-bridges-over-spey.html The page is so big it crashes my computer so be warned.

Thanks Malcolm, certainly takes time to load but well worth the wait.
Most anglers can't resist leaning over a bridge and staring into the depths below, at least I can't. ;D
So let's hear about:
1. The best bridges to lean over.
2. The best or most unusual sightings.
I'll start the ball rolling:
1.The bridge below Galway weir is a great spot for spotting salmon lying in the water below. Tourists will often shout if a fish moves to your fly.
2. Leaning over Pont Dafydd on the River Clywd, I once saw a pair of lampreys digging out a nest in the gravel.

I was fishing at Carron today when the Google car crossed the bridge, when do I appear? and more importantly does my loop look tight?

I was looking over Dinnet bridge on the Dee a few years back with fishing buddy. we were staring down in the deep glide which is to tge right of the bridge looking downstream. we discussed how the lie would be perfect for the fish. as we spoke a fish rose off bottom and swam vertically up and took a fly off the surface and then dusappeared back down into the depths. a magic moment seeing the behaviour of this beauty. every time i pass dinnet i drive to the bridge and expect it to happen again salmo.nokia

I've yet to find a bridge (any bridge) which failed to warrant a half way stop and wee keek, be that Telford's job at Craigellachie or twa short planks ower a hielan stream. For me it's the fear factor, the wee 'fleg' you get when staring down from on high.
Many years ago I spotted a wee pod of decent sized summer fish from Kinclaven Bridge at Islamouth. About 6 fish lying within in a fairly small area - or that's how it looked. With nothing better to do I decided to spook them by turfing in low denomination coins of the realm. Occasionally a coin would touch one of the fish causing it to move forwards a few feet either to the left or right depending on where it was in the 'column'. Out of the blue, and 3 squids light, a fish lying towards the back of the line came forward, upwards, intercepted and turned on the coin doing a tight U turn in the process before returning to it's lie - boring but true.
That was in the day's when three poonds could get you a fish supper, a single black pudding, twa pickled eggs, a Lucky Bag and a bottle of Babysham.

[quote author=sinkingtip Kinclaven Bridge at Islamouth. [/quote] Funny you should mention this Bridge ST! we looked over this Bridge a few weeks ago looking for any signs of life. Nothing was seen, so off we went to Kercock Beat where I caught a well mended Kelt that had me hoping for a few minutes
