If you wish to maintain consistency in your casting and cast a nice straight line with a neat turn - over, along with ability never to step on your loose line or to catch the line around your wading stick. To never lose 2 flees on two consecutive casts around sunken hazards, or to land one fish and lose one much bigger in front of the rod who has just fished the pool before you, then take this hard earned advice: Never ever ever ever ever allow a 6'4" Full time Gillhie, who has fished competitively at international level, who has caught over 800 Salmon (and probably assisted in the landing of many more than that number) follow you down a pool ;D ;D ;D
To rub salt in the wound , his Labrador was beautifully behaved as well!!!!!

I would second that he has always been good at everything he has done. Golf, Rugby and more, I am always wary in his company as I always feel inadequate but you could not meet a nicer guy.

Robbie, Just seen this thread and your right about one thing at least, my labrador is well behaved. I think you'll find that the old cliche fits well here; It's more luck than judgement. I'm certain that if you'd had fished the Tanarmouth pool from the opposite bank then you'd have had exactly the same sport as I had, probably more in fact as you can afford better quality hooks than me. One thing I would say about Spring Fishing is that you do need to have consistency; you need to constantly have your fly in the water, how it gets there doesn't really matter too much, but it helps a wee bit if you can cast off both shoulders reasonably well. I'd have taken a bit of credit, had I fished down behind you on the same bank though..................... You fished very well and I look forward to our next outing. Chalkie - you behave yourself or I'll elaborate on how significant a role model you have been in my life - Be warned............
