Never 'eard of them, not really famous are they. George McCorquodale 1891-1935 probably the greatest fisherman of all time he kept 8924 salmon and grilse from the Spey he fished other lesser rivers but did not bother keping records of these rivers. Hardly my fault that you decide to appear on here and tell the world of your ignorance.

No, but I got the quote from his new book on Giant Salmon. Waddington caught his 51lber from the Aaro in Norway, on a 9/0 single iron fly. He invented the waddie shank because he used to lose a lot of fish in the spring when using big singles on the Spey at Lower Pitchroy.

Buller's book is great for dipping into now and then, a fine historical record with some fascinating photos.
Some surprising catches, e.g. a 61 1/4 lb salmon from the River Exe in Devon, caught in the nets in 1924. This fish is pictured on the front cover of the book.
A 70lb Severn (or possibly a Wye) fish was netted in 1873 in the Severn estuary at Littleton.
