Yes well done Malcolm. congratulations from all of us here... salmo check out www.gameanglinginstructors.co.uk/docs/gaics.rtfExplanation of GAIC. The ‘Game Angling Instructors Association' formerly 'Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors'(A.P.G.A.I) was created in 1967 to establish and maintain standards of excellence in the field of 'Game Angling Instruction', initially this was in Salmon and Trout angling. It was in 1997 the association changed its name to the 'Game Angling Instructors Association' retaining the letters (A.P.G.A.I) as 'Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructor'. In 2001 the 'Game Angling Instructors Association' extended their membership criteria by inviting the holders of the (S.T.A.N.I.C) 'Salmon and Trout Association National Instructors Certificate' and (S.G.A.I.C) 'Scottish Game Angling Instructor Certificate' to become full members, this also encompassed qualified members of (R.E.F.F.I.S) 'Register of Experienced Fly-fishing Instructors, Schools and Guides' The association 'G.A.I.A' now acts as the organising body and trade association for the benefit of its members who include the majority of 'Game Angling Instructors’ within the British Isles, and some overseas members, who hold a recognised qualification. Presently there are over three hundred members holding various qualifications in 'Game Angling'. The pages on this site under ' Directory of members' detail their qualifications and the 'Syllabus' pages detail the structure and criteria of those qualifications. salmo Note: Not for WG but for the rest o' ye. The auld git sent me a PM this evening with his special letters and I foolished assumed that he had always had those ;D ;D ;D

Yes, well done , although gawd knows what WG be charging now his expertise has been validated by an an authority. I guess as an alternative to a fee increase he could use it as an excuse to downgrade lunch, a cheese sandwich and can of Tizer perhaps ? Nice to see that GAIA includes Salmon fishing as well as casting in its syllabus unlike AAPGAI whom from what I can see focus purely on casting. What if any is the relationship between these two ? Just as well WG went the GAIA route as beyond provisional level AAPGAI insist on the use of the dreaded circus casts (heaven forbid) Hopefully we can now look forward to Springeresque casting and fishing tips ( 5000 words on "the lift" perhaps?) Seriously well done Malcolm, was it tough ? Steve

As Victor M would say, "I don't believe it".......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................WG is qualified to teach [glow=red,2,300]baitcasting!!!!!!!!!!!!![/glow]
"Bring with you (at least): · A two handed fly rod of your choice, set up with matching line, leader and tag or wool. · A two handed bait casting rod, set with suitable reel and line, and practise casting weight."
Well done WG, and I'm sure our forum members would appreciate your expert tips on whanging out Flying Cs. ;D

I did have enough old knowledge to twiddle the knobs and propel the weights to the chosen targets. I did insist on a no photo rule when handling Satan’s tools.

You will also be tested or asked questions on aspects of: · Fly-fishing for salmon in spring and autumn with sunk lines · Salmon fly-fishing on large rivers with floating lines · Salmon fishing on spate streams · Bait fishing for salmon, both natural and artificial[/font] with specific reference to choosing a suitable rod, reel and line for each.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Would have loved to have heard the answers to the bait fishing questions!
Well done Malcolm.

Given that we have put up with WGs rantings for all this time I think the least he can do is offer special discount of 30% on lessons to member of Salmon Fishers.
Shall we have a vote on this? ;D ;D
