With the recent Tay District Fisheries Salmon Board meeting yesterday, it is clear that the relevant authorities & decision makers believe there is not a sufficient problem on Tayside to warrant any serious change to policy / guidelines regarding the handling & return of landed Rod-Caught salmon, grilse & seatrout.
For the last 6 years of Scottish catch returns, you may veiw the original published figures for all Salmon & Seatrout here (as kindly supplied to me from the FRS in Pitlochry.
However, individual documents can be found @
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/Uploads/Documents/Statistical01.pdf - for 2001
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/Uploads/Documents/SCSB02%20final.pdf - for 2002
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/Uploads/Documents/SCSB03.pdf - for 2003
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/FRS.Web/Uploads/Documents/SCSB04web.pdf - for 2004
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/FRS.Web/Uploads/Documents/SCSB05%20v5.pdf - for 2005
www.frs-scotland.gov.uk/FRS.Web/Uploads/Documents/SCSB06%20web.pdf - for 2006
You may wish to view these original figures, and make up your own minds, as they say, you can do almost anything with statistics (except influence the TDSFB apparently!)
These figures, together with the booklets covering identical data for the years 1994 to 2000 (again kindly supplied by FRS in Pitlochry) will cover the entire period for which there are data on Catch & Release for Scottish migratory fish.
More to follow on the detailed analysis.
May the lord suffer you to catch more salmon & seatrout in 2008 than any previous years, and how you handle those fish is up to your conscience. Here's to Salmon Fly Fishing still being a viable sport for my grandchildren, and theirs!
Mike
