I suppose we are early into the season on some rivers, and at peak time on others. What do you think the sea trout numbers are like so far?
Can't really comment on my local rivers, as I haven't been out as much as usual due to work commitments - hoping to get some time in over next weekend. The Towy seems to be doing well, but quieter on the Dyfi?
Reports from the Annan seem mixed - some great catches from Hoddom but seemingly quiet elsewhere. Numbers on the Aberdeenshire Dee seem well down on many beats.
What's it like on your local river?

Pretty good on the Teign. Sixty or so in May/June to the upper reaches. We've had alot of high water down here, so its been difficult at times.

A bit further east along the English channel coast the Axe had a better May/June than for a few years from what I hear. Actual numbers will be fairly low but tis only a little river. I heard of several in the 6-8lb class. On the Frome I've only had one of about 3lb but then I don't really target them, most of mine are a by catch when after salmon. But there are better numbers about than for the last three years. It is mostly 2-6lb fish that I'm seeing but I did turn a whopper (10lb+) two weeks ago. The next two weekends should see numbers build up, it looks encouraging so far Andy

It has been very poor so far on the Deveron, they seem to be a little smaller than average as well, although I have heard of a few larger ones. The Dee has also been poor. The Spey has been fairly reasonable.

There are a few in the Tyne; the Butler and I have shared about 8 this weekend up to 5lbs just fishing a few hours here and there
A few extremely acrobatic one's, one I had today must have gone totally airborne at least 6 times!

I would never have looked at that flee for sea troots . Not quite your traditional I used to think the same until I met an old guy fishing the Axe with a bloody great shrimp fly one afternoon. "Hoping for a salmon?" I asked "No, a sea trout" he replied "But thats not a sea trout fly!" "Tell this one!" he said and showed me the 7lb'er he had just landed They are indeed some nice sea troots. Is it just me or does anyone else find that the ones with few spots are always fatter than the very spotty ones from the same river Andy

Some nice chunky Tyne sea trout there, well done lads. ...and yes, sea trout are quite partial to a small cascade or allys on a falling spate in day time. Another good option is the Twist series of flies described in the Moc Morgan/Harris book on sea trout fishing.

Things seemed to have picked up in North Wales over the last few days. Lost a couple at dusk last night, then a few fish ran into the pool after midnight and I caught a couple on beauties straight off the tide, 3lb and 4lb. Here's one of them:

The sea trout from the Ugie brings back some very happy memories, from a time not that long ago when the night time sea trout fishing on the Ugie was excellent & the back end salmon fishing not that shabby either. Tight lines to the Ugie fishers for the rest of the season.

We seem to be having a very strong run of sea trout on the Elwy this season, albeit mainly fish around the 1lb mark.
Had another busy session last night - caught 12, lost another 3 or 4, and had numerous pulls from a 30 yard long stretch of holding water. I don't think the fish were running through, I guess there was just a good size shoal resting up.
Things would go quiet after catching 2 or 3 fish, but livened up again after resting the water and/or changing the flees. Fly pattern didn't seem that important, as long as it had a silver body. ;D
Lamson had a good night as well, picking up a 4lber in his bag.
All fish were returned.
