Does anyone know who is clipping adipose fins just now? A fish was caught on the Spey, but the Spey are not clipping.
It is obviously a stranger as it was seal damaged, the locals are much more crafty.

I think some of the Tyne hatchery fish which are brought on in the Kielder Burn then transfered below the dam as smolts are still clipped and micro tagged.

I think alot of rivers are. Looking closer to home is it the Carron or the Connon that are doing this too?

The Axe in Devon is clipping but not tagging, so not much help if one turns up in the wrong river.

I had a kelt from the River Don last week that had no adipose fin.The Don micro tagged parr some years ago but none were reported caught as adult fish, problem being the micro chip is in the head and the fish has to be killed to read the code and gather info, not so great nowadays when catch n release is used on some rivers.

What's the protocol if you find a clipped fish, i take it there's no real option but to put it back?

The fish was a Dee fish from the Girnock Burn.
Andrew does this explain why the Dee run is so poor? Perhaps they have all decided to run a proper river.

Interesting WG It was obviously lost, like a few others by the way things are going this spring on the Dee! Has the Spey had over 40 this week so far?
