I ended up with 19, from 23 days fished (not counting a few hours mucking around in Ireland when the river was really out of order due to mud from a landslip in thre headwaters). My best season for a long time, possibly ever, thanks largely to striking it lucky on the Spey in September and a bit of kipper bashing on the Beauly in October.

I ended up with 19, from 23 days fished. I thought it was the Ghillies privilege to fish only when the water was in good nick........... It's appears that you may have a canny knack of chosing the right place at the right time, don't suppose it stretches to Horses or Lottery! A very enviable return Charlie - well done indeed.

I finished on 25 which wasnt bad considering the summer on the island was the driest in living memory. I had 21 grilse and 2 salmon on the island in about 40 hours fishing. Blanked on the Spey in March. Blanked on the Dee in June. But managed a couple of nice fish off Tweed at the end of last week.

Fredo Where is 'The Island'? Twenty odd fish in 40 hours fishing in low water conditions. Utopian dream world if ever I heard it. I can see it now talking mynah birds, complete sexual liberation, enlightenment through regualr substance use .... aye aye, my kinda place .... please share my friend

The Isle of Lewis........where there are proper salmon streams, rather than moving lochs like the Spey. I had a couple of fish from the Creed in early August when there were a few showers and loads of fish running. The rod was then put away until October when some proper rain fell..........and a seasons worth of sport was compressed into 13 days. Catching a salmon in the Creed at that time wasnt difficult! I had a few hours on Garynahine and Morsgail and had fish there also. Who caught what, when, etc can be seen here- www.stornoway-angling-association.com/catch/creed.aspx

Fredo, Thats a fine wee website for the SAA you have.
I fished the Creed, Clachan and An Ois in the late 1970's - as a laddie was not allowed to tie flees on a Sunday. Quite right too - very hard work that.
I had thought of putting Loch Roag on South Uist as a dream beat.

Blank Spring on Dee and Tummel, 2 in the Summer and 11 in the Autumn.
V. good sea trout season quantity wise although vast majority would be year 1 fish, hope they're back next year.
Highlights; 2 in 2 casts on a singlehander and getting to spectate and throw in some abuse when a friend caught a a 12/13lb sea trout. I think Conwyrod referred to this in one of his posts.

My season I am sure like many others had the good days and a few others that where hard work, overall my returns would suggest that I have had a very good season. So I will not get into numbers as there were too many days when one pull turned an indifferent day into a success. The one thing I have to thank Graham Ritchie for being his Dinnet Shrimp after tying a few it proved very successful, I may have simplified his tying a little. It has joined my small collection of flies not to be without. Tight lines to all for 2009.

Graham, it came close to being my most successful fly of the season. I like to keep choices to a maximum of six in a variety sizes. Uncomplicated providing you have confidence in your selection and your own tying. Please do not come up with any more new flies as my minimal selection of six may become even more difficult. Only joking anything that works for you, I am sure would be of interest to all forum members. jw

They were in one of the previous fly swaps. The ones in the current fly swap will be one of my favourite tubes for the spring. A step by step will follow.

Hey al546... well done on the salmon/grilse, especially as they were caught on your own tied flies. Must be worth 7 or 8 at least! ;D cheers hf
