The following is a bookmark to a web site which I use whenever I want to do map work. What makes it useful is that you can quickly change the map without having to press arrow buttons up, down, or diagonally. You simply grap the map with the cursor and move it east, west etc. If the map is (zoomed out)? then you can go from one part of the country to another very quickly and then you can zoom in and see the relevant detail. What is also good about it is that it is a very detailed map. Maybe be of some use.....etc www.walkhighlands.co.uk/maps/map4_5ln.shtmlhf

Cheers HF,
Very quick.
slightly annoying in that the grid lines are not running vertical. I assume this must be because it is set up for magnetic north??

While we are on maps some may find this of interest www.geograph.org.uk/Useful if you want to see what somewhere actually looks like. The coverage in the far north is a bit patchy, maybe HF could fill in some of the blanks and pick up a few points Andy

What we did have round a few weeks ago though was the google car. Now that is a little easier to use (google road view) However I suppose they don't go up mountains! hf
