Mike, Is the book simply a compilation of his three previous books (Shrimp & Spey Flies, Hairwing & Tube Flies and Featherwing & Hackle Flies) or has he added new dressings to the list?

Hi Graham,
It was the original intention of Chris to publish an 'omnibus' edition of the three previous volumes, with updating, and thus to have a comprehensive catalogue of flies.
However, discussions progressed, and it was clear that large swathes of flies hadn't been covered, and this new book was to address these newer flies also.
1800 patterns are given, pictorially in similar fashion to his previous volumes, as well as the dressing pattern, and in some cases, brief backgrounds to the flies. However, 500+ of these patterns are new (as in not in the previous 3 volumes), and he admits in the forward that a further 1000 odd flies were NOT included in this current book as they were either so similar to other illustrated patterns, or they were considered 'minor', and not worthy of inclusion.
It should be noted that approx 300 pages are given to Salmon flies, and about 130 further pages to Steelhead flies.
IMHO this book is worthy for inclusion on one's shelf if you fish for, or tie flies for Salmon and/or Steelhead.

Thanks Mike, I already have the three original books and wondered if the new book contained new material. Looks like it will be worth purchasing.
