Christ Willie - another spelling mistake. I suspect you are going stir crazy waiting for the season to start. Tenet The season has started, I've had a couple of days on the Naver.

I can usually make a reasonable estimate of the size of any fish I catch, certainly good enough for entering in the fishing book if the beat has one. That is usually good enough for me, but I do carry a waterproof plastic coated fabric measuring tape in my waistcoat pocket in case I catch a really good fish one of these days. That way you can get a quick and accurate measurement of the length and girth of the fish, which should enable you to calculate its weight with a little more certainty. I am with graham on this one and would say that simple measurements are enough when you get a big fish. However, I have never caught anything in the UK that gets anywhere near the record so I might consider a weigh net if there was one handy that was considered to do no harm. Even then the fish should be out of the water for a couple of seconds only which is quite a challenge for a fisher when his legs are trembling with excitement and he wants to savour the moment The Co-op or Copey in Aboyne sells very cheap plastic tape measures in the for about 50pence that can be thrown away if you forget to wash away the fish smell ;D salmo
