Looking at the ECMWF web page the rain is supposed to arrive July 1st, and continue for about 3 days. Lunesman

Well I hope something comes soon, had to uplift my first casualty out of the river yesterday! a fit deep silver cock fish of 9.5lb. Found it lying dead in thin water coverd in fungus, not a fitting end to such a fantastic creature and if this continues I fear that there will be more.

Caught a 6lb salmon in lower kaimbridge thursday am (about 3.30) so a few pushing up but the river is on its bones so i guess most will try to sit in deep water to gain some oxygen, but water is needed, not a down poor but a couple of hours every other day for a week would suit me!!!!!!!!!

I went sea fishing over on the west of the island yesterday so passed a few of the rivers. Creed, Garynahine and Morsgail.........no sign of any running water. Grimersta.........incredibly low which makes the catches there really quite good. The Harris hills were catching quite a bit of rain last week which allowed a few fish to run. No sign of any serious rain coming this week either which is a pity as there are fish being seen all round the island. Good news is the the Fishery Protection mob (SFPA) are putting in an increased effort this summer which will benefit all the West coast rivers.

Name your price !! Sean of Batty fame has just announced wind and rain for Thursday - unfortunately it doesnt look as though it will make it over to the east coast - hoping I'm wrong.

Just a reminder to check the weather on St Swithin's on 15 July
St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain For forty days it will remain St. Swithin's day if thou be fair For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.'
Basically this myth states that if it rains on St Swithin’s Day it will rain for the next 40 days, or if it is fine it will be fine for the next 40 days.
According to the Meteorological Office this is untrue. They have tested the myth on 55 occasions and each time 40 days of similar weather did not follow.

St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain For forty days it will remain St. Swithin's day if thou be fair For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.' I've always had a soft spot for this particular saying, whilst it may not be literally true the weather pattern in early July often sets the tone for the rest of the summer. Good to see that we are now in early July and that the drought has now broken in Ayr BnC
