As T+W stalwart "SNOWY" and, to a lesser extent, DROUGHT and WIND have had their own threads for this past wee whiley I felt their guid freend RAIN had been somewhat overlooked - think about it what's the more important ? Sitting here waiting for the Esk to drop Tayside Report 16/05 - At long last - lots of it. All rivers up. Chucking it down since yesterday lunchtime. Slightly less windy of late - Gab's going their dinger perhaps ? Feels and looks more like like a dreich November day rather than middle May - only difference is that its going to look like this til about 10pm. Next week should be good with 'top up's' forecast - certainly for the smaller rivers. Regional reporters required - apply within. regards to all. STip

Just the perfect rainfall has hit the R Avon (Speyside) over the past couple of days, raising that level to 2'3" over summer levels, and taking the Aberlour level to 1'6".....fining off nicely to a neat 1' over summer level @ Aberlour both this morning & this evening.
I say perfect, as I'm about to leave in a few hours to head on up to Craigellachie for the week - and the wee rise will hopefully bring on a few fresh fish into the pools.
Looking forward to it!
Mike

Malcolm, '3 fingers Dougie' (Flymo accident last week ) tells me they had 4 by 11.30am today. The rise on Saturday spoilt it for us on the Craig last week, not to mention wall to wall sunshine, except Friday when we had 4 and a very stiff upstream wind all week. My left hand has come on a treat as well as the Snap T ;D Graham, I was fishing the Boat Saturday morning, you must have been round the corner, we only spotted your Ghillie fishing from the Mouth of the Fiddich. It was hard going on Saturday nice level but not many seen and none taken

Tayside 18/05.
Further heavy but localised rain during the course of today - looks like the Tay / Esk's are getting another wee flush. Five fish off Finavon Castle (So. Esk) today. Continuation of heavy showers forecast for the next few days.

Continuation of heavy showers forecast for the next few days. Very frustrating especially when I live over 100 miles away with the cost of fuel and a ticket isn't a cheap day out to be faced with a rising river - Can be a lot of cost and effort for nothing. Yes Colin, we know Fishpal show daily levels but the thread primarily relates to rain fall although I agree the two are inextricably linked. What better way to know whats actually happening than for someone to stick their head out of the window and report back here or better still, after a day on the river Bairns (bless) - it's aw technology, technology, technology Tayside 19/05View from "A wee window in Thrums" - grey, dreich, the morning air heavy with moisture. No discernible wind although granted I huvnae been ootside yet ;D Brighter later - apparently. Local levels fluctuating - that one's for the 'level freaks' BTW

It actually rained here today! Proper heavy rain for all of 10 minutes. For most of the Isle of Lewis...........2 days drizzle over the whole of June. I was hoping last years dry summer was a one off but this summer is just as bad. And to make matters worse, the trawlers have had all the fish from the sea. Its looking like it will be golf or booze.

Rain at last! Over here on the Isle of Lewis, we have had the first proper downpour of the summer today. Fish are currently tripping over each as they pour into the rivers, so once the rivers settle and clear I can look forward to wetting a line for the first time this year. I am off now to see if i can find where my wife hid my fishing tackle last November.
