The guages (highest system reading) this morning for the big 4 are: Dee - 8'0" & rising Tay - 7'9" Spey - 6'0" & falling Tweed - 2'odds Should be sure to bring a few fish well up the systems, and spread them out over the next couple of weeks Watch them guages this pm for variations, as may well affect those who have planned trips tomorrow & into early next week Mike

I had a day booked at Knappach today but phoned the lad last night to say I wouldn't be there first thing, as I suspected the river would be in full spate. I headed up to the beat around about half 3 in the afternoon and on the way up I could see that the Dee was a raging torrent having burst it's banks on most beats from Aberdeen upstream. The clarity was pretty good considering it was so high. Some pictures of the beat at 4pm this evening Looking up Floating bank (Crathes & Invery) from Knappach Looking up to Island and Upper Birkenbaud Looking down from tail of Lower Birkenbaud / Boat Pool The beat gauge I have a day at Waterside & Ferrar tomorrow but that looks like it could be a washout too. It will be interesting to see what the catches will be like once the river settles at a reasonable height.

That's a shame stuart, but let's hope the fishing improves after the flood.

A fair bit of water going down there Stuart. Hopefully it drops enough to let you have a cast tomorrow, the Waterside pool off the north bank should be worth a wee try.

Graham,
I was thinking Waterside from the North bank will be probably the best bet on the beat in a big water. I will post a wee report tomorrow.

Have been looking forward to and planning for tomorrow since it was booked a couple of weeks ago and now it's bank to bank. Feel like a kid who's been told Christmas is cancelled. We're going to chase some troots on Rescobie instead.

Do try to remember that, providing the water is not chocolate thick and it is still contained within the normal banking of the beat where you be fishing, that the fish will be out of the main flow, and making their way upstream near the banks, or resting up tucked well into the side, and short casts swinging into more prolonged 'fishing on the dangle' may produce surprisingly good results Mike

Small typing error from Mike Spey is 3'5" and falling. Looking at the forecast for the week ahead for the Grampian area the Dee and Spey should continue to fine down to a good fishing hight with only small rise in the levels later in the day due to the thaw and only an hour or two of light rain at the start of the week. It looks as if we should have a increase in catches this week for those lucky enough to be at home and fishing

Gordyt8, I usually pop down to the Don for a quick half hour at lunchtime and so far no success. For some reason I always seem to head to cockers when there is a bit water but I can count on one hand the amount of fish I have actually hooked here. Still, it's early days and to get the tail of the pool to yourself is a novelty and it's gets me out of the office.

I know what you mean, I was only thereabouts showing a new guy round all our Don beats. Wasn't actually fishing. certainly worth sticking in at the tail though.....
