The camera was ready in September, but weather delayed its instalation. The ground needs to be soft enough to dig the cables in (wireless will not work!) and the river needs to below and clear. I think we are good to go anytime. Any update on this Dave?

I see that the Atlantic Salmon Trust and FARSON Digital have got together under the new heading 'AST Live River Pictures'.
As I understand it, their plan is to expand the network of webcams within the UK and Ireland and start to include webcams on salmon rivers in other countries such as Norway and Canada. The idea is to have only two or three cameras maximum on each river: in the case of smaller rivers, only one.
They say they are going to improve the images by getting rid of the adverts. They are asking for a subscription of £1.50 each month (£28 per year) of which £5 goes to AST for their salmon and sea trout conservation work.
They also make the point that there is lots of other info on temperature, weather, water levels, rainfall etc which can be accessed as an archive or current basis.
I gather they may also be talking to Fishpal about possible ways of integrating catches and other fishing info.
Do you think it will catch on?

All I need is the weather forecast which of course costs nothing on the tv or mobile. River levels is also handy and thats also free from sepa. I believe you can still have a limited/quick view but with the obigatory adverts as before, but could be wrong. Having said that AST would benefit by a slice of the revenue, but one can still donate directly without feeding the coffers of fishpal.

I have signed up for this. I use the webcams a lot to determine whether the river is rising or falling, dirty or clear. This has often saved me a futile trip to the river. Now that the site is full of adverts paying the subscription is the only non time consuming way round getting a quick view of the river. You can pick your regular webcams on the equivalent of a favourites page on the new set up. By my arithmetic 12 times £1.50 is only £18 which is not a huge price to pay these days for some very useful and up to date information.I reckon the £18 is a good investment and saves time and is likely to pay for itself in potential wasted fuel costs, not to mention supporting the AST. I would rate it a good buy.
