Question asked of me - Am I advertising? Please be patient because some other at other social networks got confused, & objected. I had never been to Bella Coola BC before August 7, 2008. I had picked it, and Atline, BC, as a place I wanted to go to see. This can all be proved - documented. April 2008, I think, I came across a LAND FOR SALE AD in Bella Coola, but you had to bid, & I did, & I never expected my bid to be the one to get it because it was cheap, I thought. The whole story is amazing, & has been an adventure from May 22, 2008 (before I ever saw Bella Coola in my life) when Century 21 in Nanaimo, BC email to say the "un-named" seller accepted my bid. You see, I actually ended up owning (official June 2008) the land before I went. One more odd thing, I can prove, was it was advertised as being 64.75 acres, & listed Sq. Ft. of 2,820,510, but that was a misprint, & I found out later, & I can explain why. It wasn't acres, it was actually 64.75 Hecters which = 160 acres, or 1/4 Section, & not 2,820,510 but 6,969,600 square footage of land. Interesting? It also came with an Island in the river (splits river) containing about 18 acres. This is no BS. There were other weird things that came about, & again could offer what I think is why (you could start on internet - ENVIRONMENTALIST STAND WITH NUXALK NATION TO PROTECT THE GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST, BELLA COOLA, British Columbia, 6 June, 1997) but there is more to the story, & part I can only guess. No one located locally in Bella Coola, as I understand it, was informed of the land being For Sale. Nanaimo, BC is 394 miles (635 km) if you go by ferry (MSN DRIV. DIRECT.) but maybe this is enough to get you thinking, or maybe not. I never purchased the land to do anything but put my cabin in the Great Bear Rainforest, but note, Bella Coola Valley has, as James Gary Shelton email dated 12/31/2008 to me said, THE HIGHEST CARNIVORE ATTACK RATE IN NORTH AMERICA. He lives in Bella Coola Valley, & think on same river. He wrties very scary bear books, has studied bears, & much more. Also in his email, from 2000 - 2008 there were five grizzly attacks, & two cougar attacks in the Valley. Also he states in that email I still have, they destroyed "over" 25 problem bears in 2008.
I found the guys to build my cabin the way I wanted it done. The only way to cabin is to float down the river in skiffs/boat which I use two diff Nuxalk First Nations. No outboards allowed on this BC Historically Listed river. They, including non-Nuxalk built (almost finished) my cabin from the forest trees by milling trees into lumber, and big post. My first time there 8/2008 I was there only 3 days before taken the ferry - Queen of the Chilliwack, out & south to Port Hardy at N. end of Vancouver Island. Then I headed north, again, to Atlin, BC. I was on the land then, no cabin, less than one hour maybe, & saw less then 250 sq ft. I still, to date, have not been more than 300 feet from my cabin in any direction due to being alone (in 2009 & just last June 2011) & feel that's too dangerous with it being grizzly country.
My first time, & that night, my cabin builders asked me if they could use my cabin to "try" and serve Pacific Sport Salmon Fisherman, & I said sure because I knew the more interest they had in my land/cabin, the better it would be taken care of. Again I live in north Louisiana 3,000 miles south. To date they had not had one single so called client, but cabin is not finished, but should be very soon. I told them they MUST get any visitors to sign a made up WAIVER to protect me from any libilitiess. I am not asking for one penny, but I have zero idea what they charge to take anyone to cabin, or anything else. They, think three of them now, & two are Nuxalk, have no money, & I informed them recently, I am not putting another penny into the cabin, however, later I'd like to add some solar lights, & water if possible. It has an outhouse, & I took a single burner ZODI propane shower, but it has not electricity, or running water. My final payment to them, to finish as agreed on, was $7K. They said to finish $5K or $7K to made it nicer, & I picked the $7K. They have no money. Both no jobs, but one wife works, & maybe the others wife too. I paid about $22K, & all the tools they used, they bought with my money I think, but I do not claim any of that. The only thing, other than nails & stuff, from the local hardware is the green tin roof, & plywood floor. Rest was trees milled. I have zero idea if they can do anything with it, but I know full well if they keep an interest in my land & cabin, my properties is better taken care of. If, say, they start making it, then I would come back, & would have to be paid something, after-all, I am something of the boss, & 100% owner. I could not have had it without them, not possible, & if I could do anything to help them, I'd love it. Now again, I am not asking for nothing except no one is injured or killed, which can happen, and anyone besides them setting foot on my land must sign a waiver, or I consider them to be tresspassors. I hope this answers your question because there were a few that said FOUL but I think they were probably jealous. Again I am not asking for any monies, and I am certainly not set-up legal to do such, and as far as I know, they are not either. If they get anything going, they may be lucky, but they have this dream thing. I just want to stay retired, and visit my GBR cabin now and then, and try not to get killed. I take a Spot Messenger, take out their GEOS MEDI VAC Rescue Insurance, have life insurance, take seveal cans of bear spray, marine radio, but it probably will not reach the harbor there, and then my CZ550 .375 H&H Mag Rifle, & my Mossberg 590 Pump 12 gauge Shotgun that holds 8 + 1 in chamber 3" slugs. But a grizzly knows how to use his tools better than I.
