Nightmare for those angler who booked salmon fishing between 1-30. June 2012 above Gaulfossen, but paradise for those angler who booked pools below Gaulfossen.
Snow melt and intense rainfall keept the water level during this time very high and unusual cold so Gaulfossen became a barrier. Salmon were reluctant to ascend this obstruction at all in June so nobody was fishing with any chance above this Fossen.
At least who has brought smart minded a trout rod along besides his Salmon tackle was able to have some fun with trout-fishing in the hills of Gaula valley.
Hotspot Nbr. 2 ….
From experience I was furtunate to do first some exqusite trout fishing before my Salmon fishing starts ...... and I’ve booked also besides my pools above Gaulfossen also few Salmon pools below Gaulfossen, which was bitterly necessary this year in June! Very sad for many anglers who have paid a lot of money at prime flyfishing-beats of middle Gaula valley without a chance to fish for Salmon!
Can you imagine how high the water was this year?
Danielsson Reels never let me down!
This was the smallest rod I’ve fished. Most of the time my Guidline Reaction rod 14.8 (10/11) was in use
Flies, most of the time over estimated, more important the right line which brings the fly down to the right level
my most successful fly ever for night-fishing
For me the „new“ Guideline Triple D Shooting taper, especially the heavy sinking ones, are a good step forward in shooting taper evolution. And please, do not customize, take the full advantage of the standard 13.5 meters
Finally well balanced tackle and of course the right pools give you the chance to have contact to these buggers
And last but not least - good comradeship is all about and better than any catch …! And it can save lifes ….!
