Rhubarb Rock - lousy colour scheme (red+green). Jublee's (frozen triangular orange drink). Lucky Bag's - especially when you got a 'fortune telling fish' as the wee trinket. Lucky Tatties - what the feck was in them ? Vimto (anagram of vomit) - fruit based drink (meh erse !). Cydak - fizzy drink. Apple based (meh ither erse !) Anything featuring 'hundreds & thousands' ...... especially the chocolate drops. Caramac - say no more. Cowans Highland Toffee ...... not compatible with fillings. Five Boys - chocolate bar with embossed portraits of laddies (no kidding !). Zoom - ice lolly ... fae the days when ice lollies WERE ice lollies ..... min. Spangles ..... fruit polo's ...... treacle toffee ...... sherbert dab ....... but the winner is (cue drum roll) - Puff Candy.
Suddenly feel an overwhelming compulsion to go and brush ma teeth.

It used to be 1 double nugget, 1 oyster and 3 two bob mixtures.

Sorry to turn this into a fishing topic, my childhood favourite was fishing the Dry Fly.

No worries fruity - a bit of 'off topic' or tangential thinking is quite acceptable in my book. I wish I could say that my childhood favourite was something as noble as the dry fly but alas not. Coming from "traveling stock" my childhood favourite in this context was to construct a chicken wire 'tube' approx 20" in diameter and about 4' in length which was sealed with orange polypropylene berry twine at one end. The script was for two of us tinky laddies to wade about 3ft apart on one of several small burns within our 'manor'. We would walk with the stealth of heron's and slowly upstream towards the neck or run of a pool thus forcing the wild brownie population into the throat area where generally they would sit quite comfortably and long enough for us to get into position and set our fish trap at an appropriate depth and angle. These calculations were crucial to success and borne out of prior observation and the honing of our natural hunter, gatherer, water and field craft instincts. Perhaps I should mention at this juncture that this was done during my formative years as an eager 10 year old and had ceased both abruptly and completely several short years later upon making the dual discovery of lassies and the ability to "fetch up a ticky" ...... I digress. At this point my sidekick would carefully circle the fish and nip stealthily just upstream of where they were sitting, give me the 'nod' and I him, then he / she would proceed to create a real 'bourach' (commotion) with several 'dockies' (fist sized stones) and a guid going stick. At this point the troots involuntary reaction would be to do a quick U turn back downstream and depending on our calculations, observations and positioning being correct, several plump 'golden belly' wild broonie's would end up down the tube. Yin or twae fish would be selected "for the table" whilst the remainder would be carefully returned unharmed and back into their natural environment in order to provide future sport. Whilst acknowledging the crudeness (and illegality) of a methods such as this success's were, as previously stated, a result of MANY hours spent OBSERVING fish behaviour and becoming "at one" with nature and the environment. This knowledge became invaluable in later life and was the catalyst for my continuing passion for all things piscatorial. Returning to topic - I can actually recall making Creamola Foam drinks with "burn'y watter" in cupped hands ....... braw min ! regards STip
