Saw this mentioned on a BBC programme about Japan. The Ayu feeds on weed on boulders, the only way to catch them with a rod is to use a Ayu as livebait with a trailing hook......................the angler plops their bait into the territory of another Ayu which then attacks the invading ayu and gets foul hooked on a trailing hook.........if you watch the video you'll see and angler pulling 2 fish out of the river at 1.10.
