In an ever expanding population,,,,loss of countryside due to building,,this is becoming a big problem for me.
No longer can we wander in the countryside or fish in peace ,,without encountering other human beings,,when is it going to stop,,of course the big wigs of London don't give a dam, more foreigner's more housing,,,,i reckon by the year 2017,this country,, wildlife included will go to the dogs,,there are too many humans in Britain,,,,baring in mind this is a small country,,if things don't change it will be tragic,,,,,what do forum members think?

The World is overpopulated, ironically given their current economic expansion and associated environmental issues the Chinese have it right ie 2 people = 1 child . Everyone is a carbon producing , space occupying , resource using pain in the arse.

What's caused this, have you got a bunch of Gypsy's camped in your garden, yet another dog walker just ruined your fishing, or has another rafter just gone through the pool?
I don't think things are really as bad as you indicate but I think things will get worse. Yes, there is a perceived public right to roam which people use as a licence to do what they want and get away with wandering anywhere, even along the supposed Speyside Way...which doesn't run along the backside of the entire Spey...but try telling someone that when they are clearly intent on doing what they like. People will continue to spend more time in "their" countryside, after all it is "our" heritage, if you don't like it you're going to have to pay more money and get a more private beat.

Or is it that people look at other countries like USA, NZ etc where land access and fishing rights are more open? Are we happy that most of us will never get a chance to fish Junction, Sprouston, Delfur, Rothes, the Lochy etc. at prime time, or possibly at any time? Why should prime beats be monopolised by the rich/ruling classes? Why not do as the Irish do on popular beats, ie you apply and rods are selected by lottery?

At least monetary consideration allows management of numbers and wrong types, anyone's fishing is nobody's fishing!

Bearing in mind this is from the man who wanted to ban Christmas the other week. BUT. I must agree with him, we are a small country with an even poorer transport system, as organised by the bunch of expletive deleted and comic singers aka politicians. To allow unlimited immigration into this country can only count as lunacy. Someone will correct me no doubt but even during last summers catastrophic floods there was political speak of building on flood plains. No this country is poorly governed, overtaxed , overcrowded and over legislated. Do I know the answer. NO. Better ask a politician who brought us to this door in the first place.

The Big Picture- Internationally the population cannot go on increasing evermore.
The little picture- I fish private beats' that are used by campers , dog walkers , ( small sea trout streams mind ), the former leave rubbish in their wake ,the latter throw sticks for Rover into intimate sea trout pools .Effective redress is not practicable. The balance has swung too far.

I wasn't suggesting a free for all, I meant why don't we all have the opportunity to fish the creamy beats? Even I might consider paying £1000/day to fish Junction in October, as a one off treat, but as things stand there's more chance of the Toon winning the Premiership!

Superficially ,an attractive maxim, but you only have to look to the epitome of Capitalism the US of A to see that they're are workable alternatives . Managed access is the issue as alluded to by Con Rod. Steve PS good thread SK, get a bit of debate going.

The balance has swung too far. The politicians are more likely to say we'll ban sea trout fishing as it only affects 1 or 2 guys, and we'll open up the river to 100's of walkers.

Sadly , you may well be right. bear in mind , the happy campers activities are taking place on land with livestock on it, the farmer is not happy but is powerless. The dog walkers right of way is not statuary but by agreement between the landowner and Council .Anglers pay rent , dog walkers don't , it's pity the former don't take a collective walk .BTW, don't take my dog walker refs to literally , it's largely a figurative reference.

The "anyone's fishing is nobody's fishing" is a BC quote, the rest is mine, didn't want anyone to think BC was a snob. I agree with it entirely, fishing has to be managed, to a degree monetary management works though I admit others are better. In my experience you have to have the "right sort" to create a happy fishing/social environment. I find many people (including Americans and even Europeans) quite interesting for a while but don't want to spend a week with certain types, especially if they decided to befriend you and create the expectation that they can pop around anytime, or stay for a few days next time they are in your area. Better that a certain person, whether a Ghillie, Factor, agent, syndicate operator or Association Management gets a good mix.

Tweedsider You're right, but you forgot to mention that we also have the worst state pension system in Europe, less than half the equivalent in France, Spain, Holland etc. Do we do anything well nowadays?

NO. The dogooders have taken everything over, spared the rod and spoiled the child for a start. Not to mention a rural scene over run with what the Victorians called vermin, also to found in a river estuary near you.
Tweedsider P.S. how about the thousands of illegal immigrants working in the security industry, including Government. YOU COULD NOT MAKE IT UP.

Fruity are you saying the very wealthy are inevitably the "right type" (whatever that is) ? No. But, if I were given the opportunity to fish with "old" or "new" money I would generally expect to have a more pleasant and easier time with the old money and a more interesting and perhaps entertaining time with new money. I certainly generally expect anyone who has been reasonably successful to have fewer "issues", though there is no guarantee.
