Good article [Tweed] To my mind fishers see themselfs as a sort of god and forget that most of the public see salmon fishing diffrent. If salmon had cute faces with whiskers like seals and foxes fishing would have been banned. If you do not agree just think of fox hunting/ the smoking ban and the drink driving ban. Bob

Yes it is a good article. But i'd certainly correct him on one aspect...he states that the fishmongers flood the Tweed between the 1st of July and the 15th of Sept....this is entirely untrue, there are just as many if not more fishmongers on the river after the 15th Sept catching and killing fish in ridiculous numbers using the fly...there are a few good posts on the other forum under the thread 'Tweed in November'....maybe some members on here should have a read and get their facts correct before ripping in to me....this is not only happening on the Tweed...it's happening all over.

What a pity this thread has lost its way! The discussion was heading in a useful direction in starting to discuss a new way forward to engage government on the issue of the threatened netting extension in the early part of the season. I had hoped that instead of getting ourselves caught up in an internal & unproductive argument we might, for once, look at the current situation dispassionately with a view to agreeing a new approach. For my part I always have hoped that this forum would provide a constructive basis for dealing with external threats to our sport and the issues affecting its future.
Should we now abandon this thread and start a new one dealing with these external issues?

The thread has not lost it's way. If we cant sort our own faults why should we try and correct anyone else's. Sometimes in life you must look at things from someone else's point of veiw, instead of starting a new thread....maybe headline changer would be a better idea....then the so called mods on here can delete my pointless posts. I'm outa here , so keep up the good work.

Why do people continue to use the term Scottish "Executive" when it should be Government?

It may be the legal name as far as the UK government regards it but I always thought it was a demeaning term. If I was submitting a petition I would use the term preferred by the authority I was approaching. BnC

Don't be negative now Kenny. Nearly 500 signatures already ! I hope that all forum members will support this initiative which has taken a lot of time and effort to put in place. Our spring stocks of atlantic salmon depend upon it ! Go for it.

Signed.
The petition page indicates that currently around 710 people have signed the petition with 290 still needed. Is this target of 1000 arbitrary or does it trigger something?

I think it is just a gimmick to encourage people to sign. There were similar triggers at 200 and 500. But hey....... 700 signatures since 11pm last night ain't bad going. Expect to see the 1000 figure breached very quickly.

Nearly 1100 already. I've just had an email from the Wye Salmon Association linking to it which should also help.

Well done to IG for getting this petition going. I hope that the likes of AST, ASFB and the S &TA will post links to this petition to show their support.
