Do any members of the forum have any information regarding the future plans for Morphie Dyke ? Will it be repaired, removed, or left to crumble ?
Can you tell me who owns the Dyke?

The beat is up for sale and my understanding is they will not repair/replace it. I also am told that the usual loss of a lot of salmon due to disease has vanished since the dyke is no longer stopping fish from running, seems a good conservation measure leaving it broken.I am also told that it is still fishing well even with the dyke broken.

From what I have heard your understanding of Morphie Dyke's future is correct. These are the main issues: 1) The ownership of the dyke is in dispute 2) Costs of repairs are likely to be very high. It is not just about plugging the holes; there is other work required to prevent leaking through the structure on the South side. 3) The board will undertake a full review of the situation soon (when water levels allow) 4) The consensus is that the dyke will be allowed to undergo a "managed" decline. 5) under the 2004 (?) dams and fish passes legislation (WFD inspired) there is no justification for the continued existence of the dyke. 6) so far the quality of fishing at Morphie appears to be holding up, but this may change. 7) the Esk board has higher priorities than investing in repairs to the dyke. Adipose.
