Any experts on spinning reels aboard. My Shimano Alivo 4000 used mainly for bass and mackerel spinning has developed a fault when under load. Even the weight of pulling a Flying C causes it to seize up on the retrieve when a determined forced turn of the handle frees it with a audible click. Supplied by John Norris who do not have access to a repair service but gave me the number of an independent firm who do repairs. I see when the reel was purchased in June 2013 the postage was almost £5, so is it worth the £10 carriage there and back plus a repair charge or do I cut my losses - get the screwdriver out - or buy another reel? Without strain on it and an empty spool the reel shows no inclination to seize up when whirred around in dry homestead conditions.

depends how much you like using the reel and if it has caught you any decent fish.I dont know the cost of the reel in the first place but if the repair costs wil be more than 50% of the cost of a new reel then I would just dump it.

Thanks minnowman and flamethrower, I have googled the Welsh firm and it would seem that it will be more economic to replace rather then repair the reel
