Count Dave (Lunesman) and me in please. Can you make it somewhere within 10,000 miles of the border. Some of your previous meets seem to have taken place in some extremely remote water. I don't want to have get myself a course of Inoculations for green monkey disease or Independence Fever www.silversalmon.co.uk

Agreeing with Das Spatemeister General here, anywhere within a driving distance that doesn't require a mid trip oil change and new timing belt would be grand. I'll bring the fresh hot chillies for elevenses. Nowt like a dram and a fresh chilli to make you think you might just implode warm you up on a nice January morning!

However seeing nae ones seen you yet, I guess I would be waiting all night with the door unlocked. I prefer a single bed, any visitors will need to share the tighter confines of said bed!!

I'm afraid that I will be soaking up the sun in Tenerife on 31st January but make it a bit later on in the season and perhaps I could make it !

I do not post very often as i would rather listen than talk. There is not all that much to say about salmon fishing that has not been said before. Think that those on here are proper fishers compared with other forums were others like to think they know all the answers. After sixty five years fishing for trout/salmon sea trout and grayling i am just beguining to learn that i still know nothing much about our sport but so what. Long may this forum continue in stream. Bob

I've not posted much, because due to lack of rain/fish and a poorly back, I've not been clambering round on the river banks. Not done much trout fishing either, spent the summer on the flat beaches and caught a double figure Bass from an Angus beach instead. Hope the forum keeps going, I've made some friends and learnt a lot on here.

I've not posted much since had to stop my S.Esk rod. Been an ok-ish season relatively speaking, but all Tay and spring better than back-end. Always found this forum well informed with good advice and angles and less "noise" than other forums.
Hope it keeps going and if fishing steadys/picks up sure it will.

The value of this forum..............your point is valid and perhaps we should all have a bit more dialogue to prove that we value the 'forum method of communication. THIS forum is I feel the most convivial and interesting of the choices available. It sometimes contains threads of immense value which, in my view, should be the 'common currency' of salmon fishers, but sadly that is often not the case with the other sites. My particular slant is that this Forum provides an opportunity for discussion about our sport and how we can ensure it survives. It is no exaggeration to say that we are an ageing group of sportsmen (and a few women perhaps?), with apologies to anyone reading this who is under the age of 45. The delight we get from a day on the river is a defining aspect of our quality of life. Discussing the preparations for that day on the river, reflecting on it, honouring our peerless quarry, enjoying the company of our fellow anglers, getting involved in passionate discourse, are all facets of an activity that is most certainly not in rude health. If we like sharing what we love to do, then we need to make sure that this Forum survives, and that probably means getting some younger people included. How we do that I have no idea. I often think about night sea trout fishing in this context. Where are the all-nighters? I used to be one, but rarely do so nowadays. As I say, we are an ageing group.....Adipose

Hands up if you are an all-nighter! Well, until last year I would say so, until I developed a passion for, of all things, the trumpet! This year I intend to find a better balance in life. Rob Aged 48

THIS forum is I feel the most convivial and interesting of the choices available... On reflection I agree - there is no better place on the internet to communicate with like minded salmon fishers. Facebook, Instagram, GoogleCircles, Wordpress, Twitter (?), PInterest, all these have their place but none allow open discussion in the way The Salmon Fishing Forum does. Malcolm

Rob Aged 48 Yes still an all-nighter - only just. I believe in the early bird and last cast. A blether in darkness with ST helps fill the gap ! Did I really say that ? Always good company ST. Malcolm

I used to fish all night in the days when rivers had good sea trout stocks although I must admit to never being totally comfortable playing a big sea trout in pitch black darkness with owls hooting and foxes barking in the background. Now I'm afraid with advancing years and being less steady on my pins I'm much more of a daytime fisher but if the sea trout were to return in sufficient numbers to fully justify a nocturnal foray I might just give it another go...just for the hell of it !

Rob Aged 48 I used to be an all nighter back in the 80s when the Stinchar was full of sea-trout, every now and again I do decide to fish all night but within a couple of hours without hearing a splash, the yawning starts and soon I'm heading home. Don't worry guys this forum will survive alright, too many dedicated die hards on here to allow its demise. SL

A clear night and a full moon, not a fish to be heard and then bang!
