SCAM AND FRAUD ALERT which has already hit some of our salmon fishing community and will continue to be perpetrated until this fraudster is stopped.
DO NOT consider giving any money, fishing or services to GREIG THOMSON (Salmo International, Fly Fishing Channel TV, Big FlyFish Facebook group etc etc), unless you're prepared to be ripped off.
And to anybody who is either in business with him, or considering being in business with him, I'd say, "Be extremely careful, is your reputation worth risking by being associated with a fraudster?"
I think most of those that know me would agree that I'm not confrontational, and that I'm an honest, upstanding and loyal friend. I'm also always prepared to give somebody the benefit of the doubt. Sadly that has been my downfall before, and it seems that I've not learned by my mistakes.
Last July I went to Yukon, Canada, to shoot video for one of Greig's productions. The work was unpaid but I was happy to do the work in return for a week's wilderness fishing in one of earth's most amazing fishing locations.
This is how I've been rewarded.
Greig advertised a Hardy Zane reel on Facebook in mid-January for £250, and as I'm after a salmon reel of that standard I immediately replied. He said I could pay in two halves, half at time of ordering and the other half when I had the reel.
A month later, with the money in his account, no reel has been received. I have been subjected to a stream of lies, promises and complete and utter bullshit. And I discovered, as I was trying to resolve things, that he has left in his wake a steady stream of similar fraud and theft going back years.
I have spoken to Tayside Police who have asked me to send them a detailed complaint. It would be interesting to hear from anybody else who has fallen victim to his malpractice and fraud.
This is the exchange we have had over the past few weeks. It's quite a long read but gets better towards the end as his lies stream out of his gob like the Falls of Feugh in full spate:
18 January 12:06
CR: If I had the loot right now I'd jump at your Zane reel, I need a reel of that size before my Spring fishing starts.
GT: Need your address, will post tomorrow. I have 12 zanes!! I don't use all of them and am looking to buy some new kit. Let me know when you do that transfer. Im away to switch the wind on the reel for you
GT: Let me know when you do that transfer Crispin, Brassers myself
CR: I'll do it now
CR: Transfer done
GT: Nothing showing. You might want to check. Account details were correct. Normally faster payments go in straight away.
CR: I did check, it has left my account
20 January 17:51
CR: you should be seeing that money by now, any sign of it?
GT: Yep, came in this afternoon.
CR: Good stuff. Can you get the reel off to me asap?
GT: Yep, will be sent by Thursday
26 January 21:42
CR: Hi Greig, did the reel get sent off yet?
GT: Yep, posted Crispin
30 January 12:46
CR: No sign of the reel yet, I hope it gets here safely.
I GT: t will do, would imagine monday. I have it insured
3 February 11:32
CR: Still no sign of the reel. Surely it should be with me by now.
GT: Will phone and get it traced. I have another just in case. Local post office? Sometimes they get left there for collection
CR: Postman always leaves a form when he can't deliver
4 February 15:32
GT: Any reel yet? The others bar one and yours have all arrived.
CR: no, would you please send me the tracking details?
GT: Cool give me 5, I'm actually head up to my local post office. Will come back to you
CR: the tracking number is quicker and more efficient
GT: Item: KF564932754GB Via: Royal Mail Signed For™Status: We have your item
CR: haha, who has the item?
GT: Need to go up any way so will check, royal mail by the looks
CR: any news?
GT: There just saying it's on its way. Give it til Friday.
CR: what day did you post it? and why is the tracking service not working for it?
GT: The tracking is working Item: KF564932754GB Via: Royal Mail Signed For™ Status: We have your item. That's what it is saying
CR: then it's not working. It should say where along the way the parcel is. e.g.. dispatched from dundee....arrived in dublin...with driver for delivery. no point in having a tracking service if you can't track
4 February 18:03
GT: It just says with Royal mail. They are looking into it and coming back to me.
5 February 17:23
CR: The reel still isn't here
CR: and this is what I get when tracking it " Item KF564932754GB was collected by customer from Kirkliston on 05/02/15. so who did you send it to? You told me that it was posted on Monday last week, no Royal Mail parcel service takes that long to Ireland. Have you actually sent me a reel?
Because I'm not feeling very confident at the minute
GT: I have Crispin. Yours is now the only one undelivered. Will phone them now. Worst case I'll refund you until it turns up
CR: And what about the tracking number?
GT: Just saying it is with Royal Mail
CR: Did you not read my message above? It says it's been collected today
GT: Hmmm. Will check this. I gave sent a lot of these out. Will get the correct tracking number. Got all the receipts at home
6 February 00:32
CR: Any chance of that tracking number?!
GT: I'm out at the moment. I'll sent it to you in the morning
6 February 08:58
CR: Still no reel, could you please arrange refund? PayPal or bank transfer easier for you?
GT: Probably for the best considering. Send me your account details
6 February 11:01
CR: send me the right tracking number first so I can do today's check
6 February 18:05
CR: Hi Greig, would you please send me the tracking number, I want to see where the reel is?
7 February 16:26
CR: I'm still waiting for the tracking number, are you going to give it to me?
GT: Hi Crispin, sorry have been out and my phone died so just picking my messages. It is in my car so I'll send it to you when I go pick it up later.
8 February 11:00
CR: Tracking number?
8 February 13:36
CR: So much for mine being the only reel that hasn't been delivered. It now transpires that John Aisbitt and Craigo have had less than satisfactory dealings too. Please refund me immediately as I have no belief that you've actually sent me a reel at all. Your refusal to give me the tracking number speaks volumes.
GT: Hi Crispin, will do a refund today. I was going to suggest anyway. Craig has his reel and John has a reel to albeit the wrong size but have come to an arrangement so he can keep it. I delivered in person too as was down that way. Will let you know when sent
8 February 17:02
GT: That's been sent Crispin
CR: Thanks
8 February 18:34
Appologies Crispin
10 February 10:03
CR: No money received. Any more f**k**g about and I'm going to go public with this. I gave you ample time to post me a reel, you assured me it was posted, I asked time and time again for the tracking number, which clearly didn't exist as you hadn't bothered sending me the reel, now the promised refund hasn't shown up yet. What kind of a 'friend' would do that shit?
10 February 12:34
GT: Crispin, refund has been send. Don't think it went faster payment though. Will check and come back to you.
GT: Hi Crispin, will show no later than close of play tomorrow. Let me know when you get it.
11 February 11:27
CR: no money has arrived and no transactions pending according to my bank!
GT: Hi Crispin been sent 100%. On that note the reel has come back to me.
CR: why did it come back to you?!
GT: Undeliverable was what was on it. Packaging ripped too but reel ok. Was in neoprene case
CR: What was the tracking number, I'd be interested to see the timeline and see when and how many times they attempted to deliver, because there were no reasons it couldn't have been delivered.
GT: I don't think it even left the UK to be honest Crispin.
CR: what's the tracking number?
GT: There was no tracking number Crispin. I should have sent courier but I went for the cheap option. My fault! How about I just send you the reel. You can have it. Don't want anything for it, that's only fair. It's my last spare so it's yours (if u want it). Will send via Hermes
CR: You told me you had tracking number for it! Make up your mind. I'd love the reel, that's why I paid for it.
GT: I thought I did, upon checking I didn't. I panicked! ! The reel is yours, I don't want any extra for it
11 February 16:44
CR: That was clearly absolute shite about the reel having been sent as was your assurance that a refund had been sent. Nothing has turned up at my bank because you didn't send it, just like the reel! Then there was the absolute nonsense of tracking number being at home, then in your car, then there wasn't a tracking number at all! You are continuing to feed me an absolute string of lies. Some way to treat a 'friend'. Your offer on the reel is just laughable, you're clearly just trying to play for time. Well, the game's up as far as I'm concerned and I'm now compelled to let the salmon fishing community know, again, that you're a fraudster. How gullible I was giving you the benefit of the doubt! If I don't have a reel or a full refund by Friday evening I'll be notifying the Tayside Police.
11 February 18:07
GT: Hi Crispin, You'll have your reel by Friday. Would it be easier to go to Kelso? I have some spare spools also.
CR: No, I need it for a Naver/Borgie trip I'm doing next month and won't be in Kelso before then
11 February 20:46
GT: Ok
12 February 13:24
GT: Courier collecting tomorrow Crispin. I have put 2 extra spools in with spey lines on
Friday 13:53
GT: Enroute, Floater, Type 2 And intermediate All Hardy mach
CR: Cheers, look forward to seeing it
Monday 21:28
CR: the reel didn't arrive
GT: Definately sent. The tracking number is at home. Will sent it to you when home
CR: you said that last time!
Tuesday 18:47
CR: still no reel and no tracking number
Wednesday 13:59
CR: Any suggestion why last week's Friday package hasn't arrived?
His only response was a big Facebook THUMBS UP emoticon.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
