We had another day on the River Don at Castle Forbes again this year which was attended by some "well kent faces" from the Forum. Unfortunately, the water was dead low at 4" on the gauge and the sun was splitting the sky which wasn't ideal. Despite this, we had a great time and gave the beat a good going over. It was good to meet up with friends old and new and there were plenty stories shared in the bothy at lunch time. It was just a shame several members had to cancel due to other commitments as it would have been good to catch up but I will look forward to meeting up again in the near future.
Sadly, nobody seen a splash all day but Kenny was "top rod" with his wee trout he caught in the morning. Bill had an offer in Phemie but that was about it for the day. Last year we had 3 fish for our day but we couldn't match that this time round. I'm sure we would have got fish if we had decent water though. Even with myself and Kenny both present, the rain just wasn't forthcoming on the run up to our trip!
Hi Burnie. Maybe "meet" wasn't the right word to use as I had booked the beat and offered the rods to the guys who came along for the same day last year. The other rods were taken by a few friends of mine. You're right though, it is a bonnie beat. We could have just been done with a bit more water.
If there is enough demand maybe I could get another meet organised on the Don? Probably better later on in the season to maximise our chances.
