Hi Guys,
This will be like picking the winner in a 50 horse race. But if we get water................game on!!!!!!!!!!!
Why August? Two reasons....... I have fished here all my life and it is the BEST month bar none regarding the quality of the fish you will encounter.
It is all about when we get the water. If September or October is when it comes then those months will be the best, but if the previous seasons are anything to go by not many fish seem to enter the river in those months.
The other reason is I can book all the top beats for a day in August as the regular visitors come later.
You will undoubtedly be taking a chance booking a date to fish a spate river, however we have a beautiful countryside down here and I can assure you the day will not be wasted as I will arrange alternative activities if we are having a summer. (It doesn't happen down here) (very often).
I would be looking at 15 -16 rods to fish Almont, Dalreoch and Knockdolian, roughly 30 odd pools over 4 miles of water. The beats would be drawn out the hat as to ensure fairness.
I haven't asked any of the owners yet but I am sure we will be talking no more than £40 for the day. The object of this post is to see if there is enough interest in getting it on.
Accommodation won't be a problem as we have all kinds here, from Glenapp Castle, Hotels B & Bs or if you want bring the tent.
Not being superstitious I have opted for the 13th Aug.
I will let you boys have a week to sort yourselves out and I will review the situ at the end of January. If we get the interest I will put hard and fast prices together.
SL
PS. BTW It is all fly fishing

Superb spate river in beautiful surroundings - we take a beat every year at Dalreoch in October.

Used to fish Oaknowe the beat below Dalreoch each season. Believe the beat has since changed its name. Lovely countryside but the way the river rises has nearly caught me out several times. Bob

Bob Oaknowe has always been part of the Bardrochat fishing Bob. The catches all get lumped in with Dalreoch as the Duke of Wellington now owns it as well. Who was the keeper then, Charlie McKay, Bill Dargie or Bob Anderson. I have seen the river come down very quickly. Many a time I have been caught on the opposite bank from the car and had to walk to the back road to get picked up. Put your name down Bob and I will organise the Dub for you.

Used to get the permit from the farmer. The beat went down to the bridge and we could only fish the one bank as there were a lot of trees on the far bank of the bridge pool. The trees were cut down to get more rods on and the pool never fished again. Used to watch the fish in the low water swimming about in the Dub. Thanks for your offer but I just fish the Earn now which is only an hours drive. I can start when I wish and finish when I have had enough 6 days per week. Bob

Could be interested Stincharlad after my early foray down there last May under your very capable guidance. Let me know if it is 'on'.

Great idea. I would love to fish the Stinchar after hearing so much about it. Chances in August will be slim, but would love to if possible.
Cheers
Alan

Hi Gentlemen,
sorry I have not been back with any more details. I am afraid I have had a family bereavement this week, so if you would bear with me I shall post details in the near future.

Hi everybody, I have made Knockdolian an offer to take the whole stretch, all 8 beats / 20 pools. The cost will be £40 for the day based on 12 -14 rods. This is a considerably reduced rate as we take the risk of having no water, but there will also be no refunds.
The date I have pencilled in is August 13th. KD is one of the top beats on the river, so if you fancy sampling some of its delights let me have your name.

I would like to put my name down for this date.
I can give a lift to anyone from the central belt or further afield if they care to dump their motor at my house or meet up at a convenient
