Hello I used to be active on the forum years ago but lost the salmon fishing bug. Recently I have missing the running water and the wonders of our great rivers. I never sold off all my tackle thankfully I kept hold of what I needed if the urge returned so I'm basically ready to go. Now my problem is being out the loop for so long I have no idea if I can even cast a double hander I wasn't all that great 6 years ago but I did get by. I'm wondering where you guys would recommend to get back out. What I'm looking for is £50 max a day as I don't want to thrash my way through a rolls Royce stretch of a top river. Somewhere long casts are not necessary and fairly easy casting. I still.Have a 15 and 13ft rod so medium sized rivers would be ok. Oh and the chance of a fish would help. Hopefully get something sorted for next week

Salmonscotty 16lb, this is only one suggestion for you to consider. Why not use the cash and arrange a casting lesson from a recognised pro to get you back up to speed. That way you get tuition but also some river time (hopefully). You'll enjoy the salmon fishing experience all the more then and also be more likely to catch fish.
The River's Tay/Spey/Tweed should be places where you'll get support, lessons, and advice. (assuming you live in the central belt area).
I've no doubt you'll also get lots of good advice on this forum. Hope this helps.
Eric

If I was in your situation I would look at middle Tay or perhaps Tummel. Big water, yes, but open space to concentrate on casting without worrying about the bank side vegetation. I have no personal experience of his teaching ability but I am sure Jim Fisher would sort you out in no time and probably get you into a fish as well.

Hi Scotty. Welcome back. As Rob has mentioned, JF would "sort you out". Failing this, why not try to book a 'quiet' day on Dalmarnock or Lower Kinnaird where either Colin or Martin will both be delighted to spend a bit of time with you brushing up on your casting for no additional charge.
I'm sure there will be other options.

Would recommend Jim Fisher as he is not only an exceptional caster but also catches a lot of fish. Should add that he is a good friend of mine. Bob

Hi Scotty, What a coincidence that we are both getting our mojo's back at the same time. I am certain we met at Aboyne some years ago? Hope you have a successful return to the salmon world, Robbie

Having fished in Robbie's company I can assure you Scotty that Robbie is extremely 'good value' and well worth the admission price. Just do it by discreet PM.
