Was wondering if there has been many kelts caught this season. This is the fourth season so far without seeing or touching a kelt. It does not seam that long a go that the smell of rotting carcass was all along the bank. The kelts and the finnock were a pest but now would be glad of a pull. Strange as I saw more fish going fast upstream last season than for many years. Bob

Maybe all the high water has washed them all out to sea.

Could be but have seen plenty lying about after spates before. The farm manager used to say how many they had ploughed in that spring. Bob

Very few kelts about on Rothes and Aikenway on the Spey this season. A total of 14 so far. Normally we would catch that many on the opening days. There seem to be a few more further upstream.Fresh fish rod caught numbers so far only about 50% of last year and 2014. I think the constant high water from November- February and higher than usual water temperatures must have taken the lower river kelts back to sea much sooner than usual.
