Am wondering if anyone has any knowledge of fish counters including there approx. cost. I see fish heading upstream and others say there is no fish in the river. If we go back to a cat 3 river then we are going to lose more fishers and I enjoy a bit of grilled or smoked fish. Bob.

cat 3= 100% C&R? It doesn’t seem to affect the Dee attracting rods. I think most rods are enlightened enough to accept C&R as part of salmon Fishing. Anyway if you start installing fish counters now what data have you got for comparison?

Looking to build up data so in a few years time we just might have an idea of how many fish go up in certain conditions. My friend who is a far better fisher than I will ever be sees very few fish where I at see a lot. His eyes are on the water at his fly were mine are looking at the wildlife and the river, Bob.

The simple and sensible way forward is for everyone that fishes Cat 3 rivers to put in inflated catch returns. Anglers are already gravitating towards "better conserved" Cat 1 rivers. In most cases, Cat 1 status will ensure the survival of rivers as viable fisheries. C & R is just a sideshow.
Locally, the River Creed can easily achieve Cat 1 by removing certain angling restrictions. The river would achieve "best conserved" status, but would have less fish in it! MSS scientists need to be put against a wall an shot.
