I was thinking about the river Ericht in the mid eighties when I had a Static Caravan located in Blairgowrie and usedti read of up to or around 11,000 used to run that spate river in the better years.
Then I thought! Just how many actually run the main stem of the main river - the Tay. We have a pretty accurate count of what takes a right turn at the meetings of the Tay and Tummel, But do we know or have any idea of the Qtys that run the Tay? Does anyone have access to perceived figures even based on percentages of catch’s etc. Lots as we know then head up the Isla then Ericht and of course the Tummel. Where else would they head? Lyon being one of course. Any guesses as to qtys headed up the upper Tay System compared to The Tummel.

Don't know on the Tay Kenny, but it can decieving. The West water gets between a quarter and a fifth of all Northie fish, but not the equivalent flow. It Probably does have that figure of spawning travel though. The tummel might get a higher percentage now the Garry should be producing more smolts.

I’m thinking loosely if an average of circa 6000 head up the Tummel are similar qtys going up the Tay and into the upper reaches.
That being the case and for a river system that large it’s not really a lot is it I’m thinking?
Especially when the Isla / Ericht get such a large (pro rata) up their systems.
