I was given the rod below by a relative recently. Can anyone tell me anything about it? what is it made of? is it worth restoring for display purposes? It has a Butt section, middle section and 3 tip sections. 2 of the 3 tip sections appear to be different ( a bit darker) and one section looks like it may have suffered a repair The makers name appears to be Fosters Any help would be gratefully recieved ATB Robbie

Try contacting:
Fosters Of Ashbourne Ltd
15 Dig St, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE61GF
01335 343135
They were the makers, almost certainly, and with the rod number, they may be able to tell you when it was made, what were the original specifications/uses, the whipping details (the rods appears to have been re-inforced with the double spiral of wire on all sections at a later date - certainly I have never seen this before), and maybe even who it was made for.
The rod looks like greenhart (mostly), and would have been made, probably, no later than 1950's.
Fosters used to make some good split cane rods.

Hello Robbie three tips to your rod, now you are the lucky one. A lot of the better makers supplied rods with two top pieces in the days of greenheart and split cane, a broken section in either of these materials could not be replaced off the shelf as is the case today. A third heavier built section might have been supplied for worm or minnow fishing. Tweedsider
