Now just need to find somewhere to fill in the 28th & 29th July. Anyone got any ideas? Have been thinking about Forres AA on the Findhorn or possibly the Ness?? Both good but depends on water heights, try Conon as well.

Just about got my diary sorted out for the coming season. 14th - 19th April - Carron, Spey. 26th - 31st May - Grantown, Spey. 30th July - 2nd Aug - Fochabers AA, Spey. 28th Aug - 30th Aug - Wester Elchies, Spey. Hope the Spey has a good season!!! Now just need to find somewhere to fill in the 28th & 29th July. Anyone got any ideas? Have been thinking about Forres AA on the Findhorn or possibly the Ness?? Will also be taking the Northumbrian Anglers Fed permit for the Tyne & Coquet. Dave, can't you get a transfer from Norfolk to Speyside? ;D A nice thought, when would I have time to fit in work though?

No not entirely the Ness likes a bit of water to encourage the fish in. If Forres is too low only one pool fishes and it can get quite crowded

On the Tay at Scone at the end of February when I have a week the gillies want the river to be between 4 and 6 feet. I'd always presumed the lower the better to slow them down. On a river the size of the Tay (or Ness) at the bottom, no matter how low they will still run though as the river is so big. It is the big water that gets more fish in the estuary and off the river mouth the incentive to get cracking. So I am told

Is there Association water at the bottom? I can vaguely remember it being discussed on the old forum. I think it was Gordon A who mentioned something about it. Could be wrong though!!

Could be wrong though!! Yes there is a very short piece of Association water, can be very productive at the right time. Read the rules carefully as it can get quite busy.

There are some pools on the Forres stretch which will fish in a high water. On the Conon, the rule is catch one fish and your day is over, even if you release it. So you could theoretically be finished after just one cast. If you go there I would have a back up venue just in case you catch your fish early in the day.

Is it the Dingwall & D AC water?

Yes. Because their length of salmon fishing is quite short, the rule was introduced that whenever you caught your first salmon of the day, that was you finished fishing for the rest of the day. That way you cant get a few members hogging the best pool pulling out fish after fish. OK for the members of the club who may just pop down in the morning for a cast before work or in the evening, but frustrating for any day ticket anglers who may have to pack in fairly quickly.

It could end up a long way to travel for a short time fishing. I guess there must be a lot of long range C&R taking place with barbless singles being used.
