Hi Pedro,
& welcome to the '74.
I have never used a float tube, and I don't get much time to get out & trout fish these days.
However, I am interested in your set-up for the float tubing, and I'm sure others may be interested too.
What rod do you use, and what line, & leader length??
Do you use a team of flies as you would out of a boat??
Mike

Mike Hi Mike thanks for the welcome the setup i use for float tubing for trout is a Penn Gold Medal 9ft 4 weight with approx 12ft leader fishing a team of 3 flies fairly close together on the hill lochs .The flies i tend to use for the Brownies are traditional flies such Top Dropper - bibio, Doobry, Kate McLaren, olive and claret bumbles etc . Middle Dropper - Black Pennel , Invicta, March Brown, greenwell's Glory etc Point Fly - Hare's Ear Nymph, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Damsel Nymph etc I have also used the float tube for fishing for pike using a 9ft 6in 8/9 weight with a 9ft 40lb hard mono leader and short 30lb wire trace. Flies used for these are big streamer flies and fry imitations in various sizes from a size 1 upto a size 4/0 in various colours to match water conditions etc . Pedro ....

Hi Pedro...welcome to the forum. A big pike from a float tube conjures up quite a picture.Think I'd be producing plenty bubbles in the near vicinity.

Hi everyone.
I am mainly a trout fisherman here in Yorkshire but I do try to get at least one week salmon fishing a year. Been after salmon now for about 15 years with varying degrees of success with both fly and spinner. Most of my salmon fishing has been on the Bladnoch and occasionally on the Cree. More often than not my timing is poor and both rivers are usually low. Still persevering though.
Thanks for allowing me to join the board.

Welcome to the forum Divein.
Look forward to hearing about you exploits, what time of year do you normally fish the Blandnoch / Cree?

Thanks Tyne Angler.
Last few years I have had a week on the Bladnoch after the Cree has closed. Fish are coloured but the beat I fish supplies nets to place them in for collection by the Galloway Fisheries Trust who strip them for the hatchery.
This year I went up in June so was able to fish the Cree. Water was the lowest I have seen so I fished the lower beats of the Cree and had 4 fish up to 13lb and lost 2. The 13lb fish was covered in sea lice. When there is water the fish normally run through those beats. All fish were taken on a spinner.
I fished the North Tyne once in October whilst staying at Riverdale Hall. Had one very black fish.

Hello All 74 dudes, Gary from Western Michigan, USA colony here. Raising a toast to all pro74 members. I like strong ales, peaty single malts, long bellies, 15' rods, and Hardy Perfects. Oh yea, I tie my own flies because I fish them in fishy places and tend to donate them to the river. I'm learning my "English" and enjoying the wit and humour here! Peace, Gary

Peace, Gary Hi Gary, welcome to the band of brothers that is the '74. With your qualifications above, you'll fit right in here, especially as we're all still learning the 'English'!! Think I recognise your handle from the Speypages.. What 15'er do you prefer? and of the Perfects, do you have a favourite? You may find the flies we use for the salmon & seatrout a little different from those that you swing in MI. Hopefully you can share some of your experiences & adventures from the waters you fish. Good to have you on board. When you get over to the UK, there are many here who will share a dram or two of their favourite malts, and swap stories of big fish and great days over another dram of your favourite Scottish tipple. ;D Mike

Hi Mike, Thanks for the welcome. The Meiser 15' 7/8/9 Highlander is my preferred rod and I'm partial to the 4 1/2" 1912 check Perfect. I've been using this set-up with a 8/9 Grandspey and 10' Airflo sinking polyleader this summer. We have had plenty of rain this year and my home river still requires that the fly get down. Gary

Hi All, We are new members to the forum so we thought we would post some background about us, because we hope we may be of help to some of you guys. My wife Jean and I are both qualified game angling and casting instructors, Jean for Salmon and me for trout and salmon. We are also instructors for the Hardy / Greys Angling Academy and tackle consultants / demonstrators for their game angling division. We have most of the double handed rods that Hardy / Greys make, so if anyone wants to try before you buy, no problem. Our home, Fishers Cottage is a REFFIS School of angling, we also organise fishing packages in Scotland and Norway, we use mostly the South and North Esks and the Dee. Our packages can be all inclusive, fishing, accommodation, food ( Jean is also a chef ) casting instuction and guiding if required.
We were over in Norway during the second week of June, trying out some new beats and accommodation for our packages, also testing some development rods and reels for Hardy / Greys. The average weight for our five fish was just over 20lbs, and one was a 4lb grilse, the biggest fish was just over 30lbs, with another two in the mid twenties. We seen 3 fish over 40 pounds landed. The start of the netting season in Norway was postponed this year (first year of a five year deal ) whether it was that, or the missing grilse and mid weight fish from last year decided to stay for another winter in the sea, and come back as big uns this year, is anyone's guess, whatever the reason, there were lots of 3SW fish knocking about, right from the start of the season.
If we can help with casting, tackle advice or you need some instruction let us know. We have fished a few rivers in Norway, so again, if we can help with some advice, just let us know.
Take care and tight lines, Tom n Jean.

Welcome to the 74 Tom & Jean, Good to hear you had a good week in Norway. Pity Jean did not manage to better the fish she has as a wall plaque. The stories of Norway that you told me and Andy when we met on Kinniard were excellent and i'm sure the members would love to hear them. PS - Sinkingtips casting skills have vastly improved ATB, Joe

Thanks for the welcome to the Salmon Fishing Forum. I am something of a novice to salmon fishing. My interest has been rekindled having spent many hours dusting off my late father's rods, reels and other paraphernalia that I found in the back of the garden shed. I have some very happy memories as a youngster being taught to cast and 'read' the waters on the Nith near Thornhill and Mawddach in Wales. Looking forward to wetting a line again and shall be venturing out very soon, although living in Kent does put me at t'he wrong end', so to speak!
