Whats the odds on the gutters being off before the year is out? Pretty short, already had the avalanches but the gutters are ok. Had to shift a couple of feet of snow to find Duffer's bowl. I have a new ploy, cunning plan, ..............remove the gutters now to save them breaking off. Good thinking. You just need the snow to bugger off so you can get the ladders in to take the gutters down. If its anything like last year you should manage that about April time.

We got in on the act today with about 10 inches of snow in Perth, no big deal really given the amount of snow about the country. What was very interesting was the thunder and lightening! It started about 6am and stayed over us for about 6 hours big flashes and loud rumbles. I'm 46 and can't remember ever having thunder and lightening with snow- any of you fellow weather watchers ever seen this? In Scotland? Also how did it happen- I thought electrical storms were something to do with hot weather and low pressure?

I cannot ever remember snow and thunder together either.

Yes, we had thunder and lightning too. Intermittently from late evening Saturday right through to this morning. The last flash was at a round 10am today and could be clearly 'seen' through the thick blanket of cloud. Like others, cant recall having experienced this before.

we had lightening on sunday for hours orangey colour but no rumbles at all. Many moons ago whilst asscending a mountainside (going skiing wirth the forces) in a blizzard, we had one almighty thunderstorm in the middle of it, I thought then that it was extremely odd.

Plenty of snow at Carron , how are your gutters holding up, Malcolm? They are still there but I think it is just the snow holding them there, bring your screwdriver when you come to Speyside just in case.

First real snow of the winter ?
Looking around the Farson Cam's shows quite a varied picture at present. Loch Tay has been basking in sunshine all day, the North Esk at Northwater Bridge looked like it was a late autumn evening whilst a few miles down the road at Finavon the South Esk was experiencing what looked like a 'white-out'. Grantown looks like it's taken a dump.

Here in the South Cotswolds it hasn't stopped since I got up this morning (0530) 4" and counting. Unexpected day off, spent it wisely housekeeping ie un twisting a spey line, tidying up fly tying case and boxes, stock taking, gluing up a rod handle etc....oh and i switched the dishwasher on.

I am sick of listening to warnings about snow. We have had blue skies with a bright moon and stars and no snow at all.
