I suspect Rob mason is the first member to catch a 2009 sea trout in England.
Let's hear about your first of the season here.
My earliest ever Welsh sea trout is 2 June, but around the longest day (21 June) is the norm.

I believe Smigel, an occasional poster here, opened his sea trout account on 23rd of April in East Devon. The Frome is usually a good bit later getting going with just the odd fish in May and this year is no different. A few fish came in around mid May but they have, as always, vanished somewhere Yesterday I finally got off the mark with the sea trout. Saturday night we had thunderstorms which put a lot of colour in the water and I picked up two spinning on Sunday morning. One about 1.5lb and a short chunky one about 4lb. Bumped a few others and with the water clearing I thought the fly might be a better bet. However the sun came out and it all went very quiet, and then three canoes turned up... game over Maddy helps to beach the better one. Andy

You showed me yours, I'll show you mine. Plump wee fella of around 2lbs taken last night - the first night of decent temperatures. Lost a heavier fish earlier on. Hail the hand of eskimoo. Guaranteed to put every sea trout in the pool down - 8lbs approx. The flee. Going home - 5am.

Well done on the fish and the pics say it all. I like the road home one best. There is something magic about fishing for sea troot through the night. Going home and your legs feel hollow like plastic traffic cones ;D
You get into bed and melt into it and then get the best sleep of your life. You wake up and have to explain to your partner just why you spend all night out trying to catch fish. Even harder when you put them back ;D ;D ;D

Agreed. Slipping into a slightly warm bed (preferably your own) after a night on the river must rank as one of the most euphoric sensations imaginable. Home by 6am, morning rolls and a newspaper, stick a 'full load' out to dry, wave 'er indoors off to work - nirvana.

Well done Andy. I also had my first sea trout of the season earlier this last week and lost another of similar size. About 2 1/2lb and covered in sea lice.

Nice phat wee fish Graham. With the rise in water today, and some heavy showers forecast for tomorrow, Thursday / Friday should be ideal - certainly for the South Esk.

Iv'e heard the nets on the Tweed are doing well ...pity for the anglers really. If the nets are doing well then at least they are coming forward -hopefully some will get through. Looks like you guy's have missed the rain again although I see it's coming your way tomorrow.

The sea trout I have seen this season have been in better condition and a little larger on average than recent seasons. Hopefully a wee recovery in progress.

my 2 days off was a disaster as the river level was low the dam was opened the same day i was going out for sea troot, i went out 9am so i could fish a few hours then go to bed ready for the nights fishing but the result was a river full of weed making fishing impossible went out on wednesday night for a shot only seen 1 seatroot not even a touch, my mate had a couple of knocks but only managed a brownie 81/2" good to see rain yesterday though the river has came up a bit looking good for this weekend ;D

I had my first Sea Troot's last night on the Don. Gave it a try on Monday night for a couple of Hour's, but the water was too dirty. Oot again on Weds, river in better order, never touched a thing. Last night though, caught a few wee Broonie's to start with on a Greenwell's. Changed to a size 12 Silver Stoat and had Two Sea Troot's one after the other. Should have stayed out longer, but had left the wife with the Granddaughter, was in the hoose by 10.30.

Well lost the first Sea troot of the season last night at The Lees, about 4lb I guess. One of these things which took at the pool tail, took ten yards of line downstream then came back upstream like a rocket, slack line -hook out. A pity it would have made a fine fisnish to the week which saw one salmon on Monday evening and three on Tuesday morning. My companions at the Lees also lost seatrout, a young angler hooking two on a collie dog thing behind me. Also the boatman on this beat is reporting that earlier in the week, out of 4 hooked only one was landed. Roll on the next time.
