Well done chaps, still quiet down here but next weekend might be the one for me. Well not for me, had one pull on Friday and 3 came off the beat the previous night, so at least they've started to come up river at last.

Thanks for the update a minor tale of woe TS. Talking to fellow anglers it appears that 'fish lost' percentages have been much higher this season - so yer not alone. I see there was a 14lb troot taken from The Lees on Friday - some beast that.

i managed to open my Sea trout account on Sunday morning whilst spinnig for Salmon on the Frome - my first from the river. It was a lovely fat 5 1/2lb licer- it certaintly woke me up! Surprisingly the water was lowish and clear and it was a bright, sunny morning, not exactly ideal conditions for sea trout! ;D

Not ideal conditions either as you say. Well done. Bill

I've a few blank nights under my belt, and I discovered why yesterday - went down to Rhyl harbour at low tide and it was full of sea trout waiting for a spate! Some nice fish as well, plenty in the 5lb class and some bigger. I was stood on a quay wall about 20' above the river and could see plenty of fish in the mid river and also along the edge of the channel - I was amazed to see some fish within 3' of the water edge, in only a few inches of water - most unlike their shy behaviour once they run upriver! Don't think they were feeding, just moving about in the fairly strong flow. I had a quick fish in the river below the harbour, on the last of the ebb tide, and saw plenty of fish swirling on the surface and moving in the shallow tails of pools. Some quite nice fly water actually, but the fish weren't on the take. Tried big and small flies, but no interest at all. At least I know the fish are on their way!

River has had a small rise today, big tide at dusk tonight, so I'm heading up river to ambush a running fish.

Fished the South Esk last night (midnight Sunday til 4am this morning) - hooked 8 landed 5, the biggest at 3lbs approx. Went back tonight for a re-run - no such luck, the river was high and heavily coloured. Not to worry as a freshet was sorely needed. Back at home dreaming of what might have been.

Same here Andy - had a sweaty 20 minute walk across the fields and down a wooded hill to find the river chocolate brown - the walk back up the hill was even sweatier,

When my brother was at the whitefish trawling he reckoned they caught on average about one salmon a year but I cant remember him ever saying that they had caught a sea trout. Back to the subject, a couple from the Deveron last week.

Broke my duck on sunday evening - only a 1lb+ fish but I was pleased to net it.......................won't post a photo as it looks like a sprat in my large net. ;D
Yo yo water levels and a lack of fish are making for a poor season to-date.

Things are still fairly slow on the sea trout front - too much water for settled night fishing. I fished Sunday afternoon/evening after a big flood on Friday. I was salmon fishing but caught a 3lb sea trout on a small cascade ( sea trout do seem to like a small cascade). Then I moved down to one of my favourite salmon pools, the Wall Pool. I put on a size 9 cascade and was delighted to land a 7lb sea liced salmon. I was using a rio afs hover shooting head with a 10' extra fs polyleader. Here's a sea trout caught the other night, in between floods.

Nice work John. Here's the best of last weeks fish for me - a decent 3 1/2 - 4lbs taken from Upper Careston on South Esk. Coincidentally, taken on a wee Cascade variant in peaty water. The net is a 24" Gye.
