The whole concept of salmon farming in open water is now beyond a joke. Surely it is in the industries own interests not to loose valuable stock, regardless of how the fish escaped into the wild. From recent reading I seem to recall learning that the industry supports relatively few jobs in rural Scotland. Perhaps more could be created if salmon farming was moved to a land based operation in an enclosed environment. In this environment proper measures could surely be taken to prevent pollution and prevent the spread of sea lice?

The same idea of land-based operations was proposed, if I remember correctly, on Speypages some while back.
It would then be more amenable to monitoring of everything by DEFRA etc.

I hope all the escapees have a safe trip back to the land of their birth in the Norwegian fjords and tow their owner behind them for every last inch of the way. But they wouldn't be welcome there either. Makes my blood boil. Regards. BtB.
