Storlaks, Your infamous Salmon /Sea Trout has made it into T&S . The tagging in the Tweed, did it give you info on weight or size increases? Stunning fish whatever the species!!!

So I heard Robbie. Haven't seen latest T&S. It is now classified a sea-trout / salmon hybrid. Sea-trout female and salmon male. From all the scientific feedback I've had it appears this is quite uncommon....i.e. second generation hybrids. You do get hybrid parr but they don't usually go on to breed. Last known (to me) largest hybrid was taken from the Don in 1989. It was actually tagged as a salmon smolt in the Tyne estuary, but ended up in the Doon. Funnily enough it was the hardest fighting fish I've had all season

I bet you had mixed feelings about that fish. Thinking you had a massive Doon Sea Trout which is a brilliant feat and then discovering that it was a hybrid, another amazing rarity and something new for your record book. Will they accept it as a Doon Sea trout record or will it always sadly be in no-mans land?

Storlaks, The tagging in the Tweed, did it give you info on weight or size increases? Tagged as a 15.2 cm smolt in the Tyne estuary. Two and a bit years later it was over 10lbs. Good growth for a sea trout, or salmon, whatever it was! Builnacraig

Looking at the recent announcement that Scotland has the 2nd highest rate of obesity in the developed world. I suggest this fish turned left when it left the Tyne and not right ;D
P.S. Before any Scotsmen complain, I do live in Scotland and am no sylph myself.

Robbie, I'm sure it won'tl be recognised as a Doon ST. I suppose I am disappointed for that reason as it looked and played exactly like a ST should, and if it were not for the tag being found, it would have been recorded as one. But on a more positive note, I now hold the Doon record for the largest (and only) hybrid caught. It was suggested it maybe a national record but who knows. It was a nice fish
