Sea trout fishing, like salmon fishing, is often about being in the right place at the right time. For once, I got it right! Tuesday 19th JuneFished 11 p.m. till 2 a.m. River running at two inches above summer level. Nice night with some cloud cover clearing as the night progressed, a bit of wind now and again and temperatures no lower than about ten degrees. Four sea trout caught, one on a size 8 Ginger Pearl and three on a one and a half inch Needle Fly. Total weight 10.5 pounds, biggest fish 3.5 pounds. Wednesday 20th JuneFished 11 p.m. till 2 a.m. River steady at two inches. Calm, mild night with good cloud cover. Four sea trout caught, all on a one and a half inch Needle Fly. Total weight 11.5 pounds, biggest fish about 4.5 pounds. For full report, see: www.trout-salmon-fishing.com/spey-sea-trout.htm

It's why we old geezers go out night after night in the summer - occasionally you just hit it right, and it can be great.
Lovely looking fish John.
Not a bad season on the conwy, I'll say more tomorrow.

Fantastic fish John. When they're on they're definitely on. I've only ever fished the Spey once for sea trout at night but had no luck, despite hearing them splash all around me. Might have to do with the fact that the guy I was fishing with was half blind and I spent more time making sure he didn't fall in than actually fish. In the Hebrides, where I do most of my fishing, anglers tend to fish for sea trout during the day. It's a strange one because during the hours of darkness they tend to go off the take - the exact opposite of mainland sea trout fishing.
