Quite a lot of scaremongering and twisting of figures in that article. Actually cod and haddock stocks are making a limited recovery compared to a few years ago.

I know many of the commercial fisherman up this way are fairly positive about the increasing stocks of cod and haddock. Some species such as halibut and skate, both of which are slow growing, are still very scarce. One encouraging thing is the vast increase in sand eel numbers over the last 3 or 4 years.

Yes funny old thing the sea Graham, thats something like the same craic I have heard down this way. I was spinning for mackeral last year and right up to the foot of the rocks the water was packed with lesser sandeels, right out to at least casting distance as there was an eruption away from the lure every time it hit the water. No mackeral though on that occasion.
