Hi Mactavish. Where are you fishing ? Fly, spin or bait ? What kit do you have or are you starting from scratch ? Been fishing before ?

Hi, I've been trout fishing for 4 years and I'm looking to go somewhere between the 10th and 14th February to fish for salmon. I bought a salmon rod and line last year and spent two days on the Cree at the end of the season where I learned to cast. I live in Giffnock next to Glasgow so I'm open to advice as to the best beat to access. I'll stay overnight if its worth it, otherwise I'll journey back the same day. I want to fly fish.

Hi, Thank you so much Conwyrod. I'll book up tomorrow and let you know how I got on. That is precisely what I wanted to know. Cheers

Get a river leaven,or a Clyde ticket. That way you can practise your casting, and have a chance of a fish into the bargain

Certainly get plenty casting practice on the Leven. Uninterrupted practice. There might be a few more rods around on the 1st of March though.

Hi Conwyrod, I've taken your advice and booked up Monday and Tuesday next week on the Tweed at Rutherford. What flies do you suggest? What sort of tip is appropriate for a Ghillie for a day, also is there any accomodation you'd recommend in the area for Monday evening? I'm buying a clyde ticket today Stantheman. Cheers.

Hi, I have not fished Rutherford but have at Mackerstoun which is the next beat down river. Very pretty countryside and river! If you stay in Kelso there are several tackle shops who will sell you the right flies. Where to stay depends on your budget. A friend stayed at www.ivyneuk.com/index.html a few years ago and liked it, c.£32.50 BnB pn. Or you could push the boat out and stay at www.ednamhouse.com/ which is an experience worth doing at least once in your life! c.£105 Dinner ,B and B pn for a single room. Enjoy your fishing........ You have made a good move taking a ticket on the Clyde. As for somewhere to stay, try Clint lodge. It over looks the Tweed just outside St Bothwells, and there's a great tackle shop there.I think the guys name is Ian,also known as Poshtosh man. There's not much he's not got in stock
