Next season I start my Salmon fishing in earnest, so following advice on this and other fora I going to book some tuition. My background is two years of stillwater fly fishing, did a week of river fishing on the Nith where I held my own, had 15 minutes of spey casting tuition ( a freebie at one of those Game Fairs) where I was far from perfect, but didn't break anything or take anyones eye out. ;D So I have some technical background knowledge and not a complete monkey at learning new techniques... How much tuition (in hours) and how much should I expect to pay. I'll be mainly fishing on the Wye and Usk so will be phoning the respective foundation to put me in touch with someone, just wanted to get other anglers experiences, so I don't under/over do it. cheers

Try about three two hour lessons with a period of time between each lesson so that you can go out on the river and practice what you have learned from the previous lesson. Take it from there if you think you need to further refine things, but I think that you should have the basics of a good casting technique in that time, especially if you already have a good deal of other angling experience. I think the going rate for casting lessons is about £30 per hour. I am sure that fishingd0 will be able to recommend someone.

Hi Shedhead, The AAPGAI members are widespread and are worth checking out as there will no doubt be someone near you or where you plan to fish. Here is a link to their website. Hope it is useful www.aapgai.co.uk/opener.html
