and they are as good in real life- thanks Dai. Gave them a swim in the week. No takers, but very durable flies, having been dragged through the odd tree.

Will you two stop pregnant doging as this forum is a civilized one The vast majority of SBS on the forum are done by members who are trying to keep there fishing costs down and not professional fly tiers who are doing it for a living. If it were not for the SBS that are on this forum for every member to view free of charge I would not know where to start in tying my own flies with out having to purchase all the relevant books at additional cost I am sure both Speyducers and Dai's snakes will catch fish and as far as I am concerned that is the bottom line Very nice tyeing Dai and hope all the above dose not put you off this forum as I eagerly await your SBS Herbie

Hi C, And thank you for your comments, and tidying up thread.
I did not like the way it was going, i only post flies and step by steps. to help people who want to tie, and learn.
I hope SC, will not do what he has been doing in the past again. as i don't like to have the problems that it brings up,
I don,t go thought life, thinking my tying is better than any other tier.
So as a i said will get some more pic's up soon, plus the step by step.
Happy tying, and lets hope many tight lines, now we have had water.
Dai.

Hi Col
I have heard that some of the more garish coloured snakes - orange, yellow and gold - are good for salmon in spates/coloured water, fished like a big tube on a sinktip I suppose.

Just to say, I took receipt of a puckle of Dai's snake flies yesterday - the Silver Stoat and Teal Blue + Silver variants - and very nice they look too.
I suspect they will be given more than a few opportunities to prove themselves irresistible to the So. Esk sea trout population over the coming weeks.
Lovely work Dai.

This is the spate buster snake fly, which has a good reputation for salmon in high water:

Bit like a posh waddington in a sense. Waddingtons with they're slim design helps in getting down a tad compared to the fuller dressed fly/tube. So absolutely no reason why those snakes won't do the business

Cheers ST, Glad you are happy, here are a few pic's of some of the snakes i did for ST. A set of squirrel blue & silver snakes, One tie short, these work like a secret weapon. And one tied as standard. both with silver head, these do stand out in the dark water. A set of silver stoats, again with silver & red head. Close up of silver stoat, as i have said. these patterns tied with a silver head do stand out in the dark, Hope you like these as well, i am off tomorrow to stoke on trent. to tie at the BFFI show, and as i have said in the past will do the SBS, and will post a range of Salmon snakes that i tie for a few customers. Tight lines, Dai

Small pedandtic question, but when a snake is measured 2", 2.5", 3" etc. Is it measured from apex of bend of hook to end of eye, or length of braid in between these points? As I have tied up with 3" legth of braid but length from hook bend to tip of eye is 4", so have I tied a 3" snake or a 4"?
Oh.. and Dai how big were the snakes you tied for Stip?
