Oh.. and Dai how big were the snakes you tied for Stip? Six inches Have you taken up pike fishing Andy. ;D Shedhead, just measure them from the eye in the braid to the bend of the hook. A selection in 2, 2 1/2 and 3 inches will cover most eventualities and if they are for your trip up this way, remember that you will have to use a single or double hook on the end.

Small pedandtic question, but when a snake is measured 2", 2.5", 3" etc. Is it measured from apex of bend of hook to end of eye, or length of braid in between these points? As I have tied up with 3" legth of braid but length from hook bend to tip of eye is 4", so have I tied a 3" snake or a 4"? Oh.. and Dai how big were the snakes you tied for Stip? Hi SH, Sorry so late in coming back to you, i tend to measure my snake flies from the base of eye. to the eye of hook, Unless the buyer asks for a snake that measures, from the tip of eye to back of hook. But can tie up some 6 inches for you ;D should you need some. Dai

I like the look of these flies (thanks for posting the SBS Dai ) so here is my first effort. The Partridge BMD's are ideal, needle sharp, fine point, wide gape. For the hotspot on the hook I used luminous Glow Floss. The Sunburst AF is from Davy Downie, lovely stuff. I got a piece of Blood Red as well, I have been looking for that colour of red for a long time. I'll post some flies with it soon. BnC
