Taken in the nets of Girvan in 1960. The gentleman holding the fish, John McKnight, died recently. Any guesses as to it's weight? BnC

Don't worry Gordon, I'll be down tomorrow evening, I've got a meeting at 3pm but it will be a short one!

It was 46lb according to my contact. The man holding it was very tall, over 6'. A fish of 60lb was taken in the Ballantrae nets in the 1920's.

A fine fish by any standards Would be even finer to be able to contact such a size of beast with rod & line today - perhaps on the Tay? Mike
