Things have been slow on this trip to say the least. Some good anglers & no pulls in 3 days fishing. Put down to lack of fish and maybe we were a bit too early for this far Northern River which is reckoned to peak in August. That all changed tonight. Up to now I had been fishing a Triple density Float/hover/Sink1 but it occured that the water temp was 56F & the air temp well above that with gin clear water and quite shallow. I thought "just like the Dee" so put on a full floater & size 9 Red Butt which is small by Norwegian standards.
HOOKED UNDER THE MIDNIGHT SUN
A LARGE FISH BY ANY STANDARDS
APRES FISHING SAT NIGHT/SUN MORNING CELEBRATIONS
I was on my own when I hooked this fish but fortunately two Norwegian fishers were drifting down back home in their boat when I was playing it and they pulled in, took photos & helped me accurately measure the fish with a tape measure. The fishometer brings out 38lbs. I'm happy with my first Lakselv fish. Great fight. I knew it was a good un when it persisted in taking long runs upstream against a strong current and a drowned line. The River is quite shallow and this makes the fish fight like fury. This is why we come to Norway. I am replete
38lbs Andrew. Cracking fish Jim - have you had larger of the flee or is that a PB ?
Thanks Andy. My second best. I had a 44 pounder from the Alta in August 2008. If anything, the fight from the Lakselva fish was better as it took and was played in much shallower, faster water. This resulted in long, long powerful runs. Some buttock clenching moments before I could persuade it onto the beach

Did you say you got a red butt after the fish Jim or before I see during your celebrations your still drinking that shite grouse with Canada dry A beautiful fish Jim, well done. Btw managed 3 crackers just doon the road from you.
Harry told me about your success James. Crackers every one. Exceptionally well done. Your casting has fair come on since I gave you that wee lesson....hehe ;D
You obviously had more fish around than we have had in this river. Never mind. We have just had fresh king crab delivered tonight (alive), cooked and eaten by the campfire under the midnight sun. Braw. Will be back to purridge the morn.
