I get lots of leaflets about wine clubs, and some offers look very tempting indeed, but I've never joined one. I tend to go down the supermarket and get what's on offer.

We did the Sunday Times wine club for a few months, 12 bottles every 2 months(I think) We only really had 1 or 2, at most, bottles that we didn't like, the rest were really nice. I think it was about £60. It works out cheaper to buy the special offers at supermarkets, some of which give extra discounts for buying 6. The 12 bottles only really lasted us about a week.

Good shout, the main supplier to a number of clubs club is (I think) Laithwaites, all good quality wines and delivered to your door (in a case of 12 to your specified liking, whites/reds/mixture) every 3 months. If you actually drink wine though, as opposed to looking at it sitting pretty on your wine rack, a case of 12 does not last much beyond the end of the week in which it arrives (yeah I know some you are supposed to keep for a while to let it "mature" but hey, needs must). As shedhead says (and John), supermarkets (tesco in particular) have some great offers on wines all year, there are usually at least two wines (a white and a red of course) on offer at half price at any given time, factor in their 20% discount on 6 bottles or more and it would be rude not to. May I make it clear that I have no connection whatsoever with tesco, I just find that their offers are better than the alternatives. To answer the original question (and thus get back on topic ), no. IMO they are not really worth the money. They can however be quite useful as a source of wines which you may not normally try. They are also an added (and sometimes surprising-"Ooh, box of wine on my doorstep. Huzzah!") bonus and indeed supplement, to a healthy balanced wine diet. Hic.

Rumor has it that WG and TyneAndrew are attempting to wipe out all 14% red wine stocks North of the border this week.
