We took in a day at Melrose last Saturday and took a few pictures for those not familier with this beat. The river was approx 1.5ft and running quite clear, and was surprised to see everyone spinning big muckle Rapalas! Its a part of the Tweed that I was never away from in my trouting days and many a good memory I have of the river down there. Stating from the top of the Beat: The Generals Tail of Generals leading to the Cauld Pool Lip of the Cauld pool and when fish are running they tend to run nearest the wall at the bottom right hand side of the picture where they can often be observed resting before moving on. Looking up towards the Cauld from the Left bank Looking up Upper Bridge pool from the suspension Bridge. Looking at the Lower Bridge pool/run My favourite the Battery pool. Great tight head to it with a long pool thereafter, leading down to Cowies pool. Nice looking part of the river, but not performing too well thus far.

I walked to the Cauld Pool one morning last May and thought that would be a good place to spot running fish. For those that don't know, the beat passes through Melrose.

Nice photos Kenny, my first Tweed fish came from the Battery Pool, off the other bank.

When its up a few feet tend to move over towards the left bank. Caught my first ever salmon when a very young lad, just about where that fisher is in the picture - on 5lb leader and a pennel/worm tackle. Had to put it back though, as the salmon balliff was in the right place at the wrong time ;D
