Was in Tesco's tpday and they seem to have some sort of sale on as far as Malts are concerned, Well worth a look see, I suggest tb Waitrose have offers on theirs too, at least in their Jesmond store They have Aberlour 16 on offer at the moment.

Conwyrod.... have read the thread again but noticed that you're not so happy with the Islay malts. Pity as the Caol Ila (distillers edition) is a very refined malt... somewhere between a Bomore and a Laphroig. The business! Maybe someone out there will appreciate it. hf

I've heard Caol Ila is a nice dram Eric................................I'm still leaning towards Speyside malts................so I may use that as an excuse to arrange a visit to the Spey sometime soon.

Had a flavour of the Laphroig Quarter Cask and couldn't believe it was possible to drink a Laphroig without any water or ice cubes. Unbelievable and - believe me or not - very, very tasty. I would certainly go a bottle.
Not so good though was the Bowmore 100% proof edition. It wasn't that it was so bad - sweet and peaty - probably that it was so strong and that I may have rushed it. Maybe another taste will change my mind, so better go and visit the nephew again.

Was doing the weekly shop at Tesco's today.
There is a wide range of quality Malts at £25 a bottle. The value for money one is Glen Moray at £18 which is even cheaper than Tesco's own brand Malt at £20 a bottle

For those wanting something a little different, if you're near Aboyne there's a nice selection in the store. Another fair selection is in Banchory and the prices are pretty reasonable. There's a new Fettercairn that might appeal to those who prefer the less robust flavours, I took my brother for a distillery tour the other day, highly recommend it.

I know its not Malt, but on the way back from a recent overseas holiday I bought two 1L bottles of Blue label Vodka and Bicardi for a total of £20 on the plane.
In the Co-op last night the same 2 bottles were selling for a total of £58!!

It sure doesn't taste the same as when you are 21 and on holiday in Spain with mates! My taste buds must have changed. Can just about tolerate a Vodka and Coke You still got a good bargain though tb

Whilst we are off piste, so to speak. If you are in the duty free, have a look out for Biscuit or Hine Brandy, both far superior to anything you find in the shops round here.
